New owners of Tiller's Wichita abortion clinic plan to open clinic with three doctors

Source: Kansas City Star

WICHITA | The new owners of the former Wichita clinic of slain abortion provider George Tiller say they expect to open the facility during the first quarter of this year with one full-time and two part-time doctors.

Trust Women director Julie Burkhart told The Associated Press Tuesday the clinic will offer comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological health care services as well as abortions. The clinic has contracted with the doctors and has hired most of the nine or 10 people it plans to employ.

Representatives from the Feminist Majority Foundation are in Wichita this week to assess security measures at the clinic. They are also meeting with local, state and federal law enforcement officials and building community support.

like Clinton did in the 90's during the summer of "crazy". (Rescue is just not the appropriate word).

Among the U.S. documentary competition films are Gabriela Cowperthwaite's Blackfish, which centers on a notorious killer whale responsible for three human deaths; Carl Deal and Tia Lessin's Citizen Koch, which looks at a Republican Party in flux and the impact of new campaign-finance rules; and Martha Shane and Lana Wilson's After Tiller, which examines the issue of late-term abortions.

After Tiller is the sort of Sundance film that could court controversy, and perhaps even a protest in Park City. (It wouldn't be the first: In 2011, the Westboro Baptist Church picketed outside the theater where Kevin Smith's politically tinged horror film Red State premiered.) After Tiller, named for Dr. George Tiller, who performed late-term abortions and was murdered in 2009, looks at the four remaining U.S. physicians who perform the controversial procedure. "That is a very hot topic," Groth said. "We were not sure how people were going to react to even the notion of that film."

This is excellent work by those in Kansas who support women's rights to decide their paths in life. I hope to see more of this determination to overturn these laws.

I just hope one of the physicians will be doing third trimester abortions for those children and women who need them.

..I totally understand why it wasn't reopened immediately after the brutal murder of Dr Tiller. In the small city I live in, a small central park in the middle of town is often used for protests. It might be an idea that Wichita could think about, to keep obnoxious religious protests away from this business and away from grieving family members at churches and funeral homes.

If not, calling it an "abortion clinic" is RW framing.

eta: not calling out the OP. LBN requires using the actual headline. Just making an observation of how slanted that headline is.
