Conservative offers $10K for plan to overtake GOP establishment
Source: Salon
Richard Viguerie, the Conservative fund-raiser and chairman of Conservative HQ, announced The Liberty Prize, a contest that will award a $10,000 prize, plus fame, appreciation and the opportunity to save America to the conservative who comes up with the best plan to take over the Republican Party, win the November 2016 elections, and govern America by 2017.
Viguerie, who was a big fan of Rick Santorum in the 2012 presidential race, writes in his announcement:
The most important political battle in America is not between Republicans and Democrats or between conservatives and liberals. It is the battle for control of the Republican Party between establishment big government Republicans and limited government, constitutional conservatives. It has become clear that establishment Republican and Democratic politicians have failed America because they have both accepted big government as the solution to every problem.

I'm beginning to think the Republican Party is going to have to add a whole round of "inter-league" play before the 2016 Primaries start.

(11,704 posts)MY question is, if there WERE such a person (an avowed Liberal, who happens to be a Republican) would that person have your support?
I'm not saying they should, (I know this is DEMOCRATIC Underground) I'm just curious...

Honestly, these fools have been looking for some grand savior the way TMZ looks for the next Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian or Lindsey Lohan. The problem is they all have feet of clay, no substance, no backbone and are simply window dressing for the deeper problems of the republic party: no one likes them or their stone-age policies.
I remember the 2008 campaign when they went running from candidate to candidate - 'member Fred Thompson and his short-lived attempt at running. How about Guiliani? For Viguerie and the rest of the dopes running the party, they're trying to find a popular version of either Danny Bonnaduce or Hulk Hogan. I say let 'em keep at their star-chasing - they're failing spectacularly!

(8,008 posts)That's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. This crowd is talking about secessionism, nullification, 2nd Amendment solutions and a whole host of other anti-American crap. The problem seems to be that there are more than just the two factions Viguerie has identified. Besides, they are for anything but limited government as they want the government in every bedroom in America.
