Journalist fatally shot in northern Mexico
March 04, 2013 09:18 PM

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico: A journalist who ran an online publication in northern Mexico has been fatally shot, according to a posting Monday on the website, which said the man's body was riddled with at least 18 bullets.

The killing late Sunday has led to a decision to shut down the publication, which covered general news in Ojinga, a town in the state of Chihuahua which shares a border with the US state of Texas.

"Jaime Guadalupe Gonzalez Dominguez, 38, was shot at least 18 times," the website wrote.

"This very likely is the last news reported by this site," the posting read, adding: "This attack on journalism is a real shame."

1. Being a journalist in Mexico takes real courage. Unlike the 'threats' faced by Woodward

3. That's Ojinaga, not Ojinga. Across the border from Big Bend.

Many Mexican media outlets simply don't report on the drug war anymore. Too dangerous.

I feel compelled and inspired to do all I can to end this war on drugs, especially or starting with marijuana prohibition.

6. And Mexican pot production is up in recent years as the army concentrates on the cartels.

But what I want to know is who is buying all that crappy weed?

I live in California, where we grow the good stuff. In recent years, I've only seen Mexican brick weed in the far Midwest, and even there, it's being supplanted by West Coast weed or, more recently, Colorado chronic.
