Johns Hopkins Students Want To Replace Ben Carson As Graduation Speaker
Source: Talking Points Memo
Students at Johns Hopkins Universitys medical school are circulating a petition to replace Dr. Benjamin Carson as their commencement speaker after the famed neurosurgeon linked gay marriage to pedophilia and bestiality in an interview with Fox News Sean Hannity.
The petition, which was posted on a Facebook page for the student-run Health and Human Rights Student Group, describes Carson as a world-class neurosurgeon and passionate advocate for education, but concludes that his expressed values are incongruous with the values of Johns Hopkins and deeply offensive to a large proportion our student body.
Carson, who is set to retire this year as the universitys director of pediatric neurosurgery, told Hannity on Tuesday that opposite-sex marriage is a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality it doesnt matter what they are. They dont get to change the definition. . . .

Hopefully this guy - accomplished as he may be - will fade into the woodwork as quickly as he came out of it. He has no business being a commencement speaker after what he has said here and elsewhere.

(19,348 posts)My first impression of Carson is that he is a jackal.
Many conservatives agreed that he was out of line confronting the President at a non-partisan event.

The film that was made of his life "Gifted Hands" is awesome,
and for the end of his career to end like this is truly a shame.

(2,878 posts)This is a good chance to use the power of student protest, something that's disappeared from the political landscape. Students are currently an untapped resource and a real underclass. A bit of successful resistance on an issue like this would be a good thing.

(25,111 posts)either ignore history or don't give a shit about it cause from my recollection of what he said about gays the same damn thing was said about Negroes, i.e., white and black should never marry or have children. . . bestiality. . .pedophilia. . .against the Christian Bible, et al.

(34 posts)World-class neurosurgeon, but world-class a$$hole for disrespecting the President with his conservative views and doing a victory lap in Fake News and CPAC. What an absolute disappointment. It's ok to dislike the President's policies, but not ok they way he showed his dislike...he should have been more respectful and polite.

(32,065 posts)after that NAMBLA comment. Just as bad as Michael Richards's n word rant. Even world class surgeons are not immune to this Limbaugh level of stupidity. It was bad enough the stunt he pulled at the prayer breakfast, but this Fox interview crossed the line for real. If he is on the 2016 ticket, video of this interview should be enough to disgust most decent americans even some on the right. Carson = the black Santorum.
