Ex-Nev. assemblyman Steven Brooks arrested hours after expulsion (watch video)

Source: AP

Former Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks has been arrested in California on charges including resisting arrest and throwing objects, just hours after he became the first lawmaker ever expelled from the Nevada Legislature.

Jail records show Barstow police arrested Brooks, 41, at about 7 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 15 at Stoddard Wells.

“We had started to discuss possible next steps,” Mitchell Posin, Brooks’ attorney, told The Associated Press Friday. “Next thing I know, I heard about this.”

I was just doing that out in the front yard this morning; then my dog brought the ball back and we did it again.

They really can get you for anything if they want to, I guess.

"The arrest followed a high-speed chase that ended when police used spike strips to disable the runaway vehicle in which the driver was throwing metal objects at police, including a handgun, according to the Victorville Daily Press."

"Shoot that n*****!"

Traffic stops as spectator sports with expectations of violence.

those who pushed for his expulsion made sure this took place to secure character assassination was confirmed. He isn't pearly white after all... and he was driving a nice, late model vehicle so... Nevada isn't well known for racial equality and the desert CHP crowd is pretty biased in that regard. Makes me glad I don't travel anymore.

This guy had established himself as posing a danger before today. If you have evidence that Majority Leader Horne or others that supported his expulsion somehow caused the incident that occurred AFTER he was expelled, I would like to see it.

Those California troopers certainly shouldn't have beaten him but how does he keep getting himself in these situations? (The "shoot that n_ _ _ _ r" comments came from someone close to the camera not the cops).

He's got to be bi-polar or something and needs help.

This will give you a better perspective

"My wife once worked for the Las Vegas Urban League where Brooks was president of the board. He was not the executive director, mind you. He ruled the place like a little Napolean, chastising workers cruelly in front of other workers, firing people. He helped to force out three executive directors in a span of five years. My wife used to come home complaining about him all the time.

This behavior of his was not well known to the public and he somehow got elected a term ago (he had ties to a city councilman). In his first term he flew below the radar not producing any legislation, but before the convening of the legislature for the beginning of his second term committee assignments were handed out and he felt he didn't get what he deserved. This is what set him off. Imagine, a sophomore assemblyman who had accomplished nothing expecting to be in a leadership position. He actually threatened the Speaker and was stopped by police in January with a loaded gun in his car. The reason he was stopped is he made the threats openly to others and someone alerted police. Thank God they voted him out, and what took them so long?"

This guy is no persecuted innocent. He's having a not-so-slow motion mental breakdown because his world is falling apart because of his delusions of grandeur and not being the HNIC in the legislature. Remember, he was arrested twice before since January — beating his wife and trying to take an officer's gun. He also tried to buy a rifle and body armor after being barred from the legislature in early February. He was denied by the gun store owner because of the publicity surrounding his actions. Wonder what he intended to do with the gun and body armor?

Interesting, thanks for the detailed background... well, somewhat detailed. That being said, agreed the CHP was too violent, as usual. Sounds like the guy could use some help given more details about his history. Too bad.

. . . before when he was president of the board LV Urban League. When he was no longer the big fish in the little pond and tried to take that attitude to the much bigger arena of the state legislature his little Napoleanic tactics no longer worked. In fact, they got him into big, big trouble and his world has fallen in on him. And the deluded individual he is is no longer connected to the government. All based on eye witness accounts of workers who suffered under Brooks.

But language like that, even made into an acronym, detracts from the individual idiot, and adds hateful tension to an already bad situation.

I was questioning the judgement of the individual who wrote that description. Not Brooks himself.

He presided over a reign of terror and expected people to kowtow to him. And if you know what the term means you should know that the person writing it is not racist but has known people who the term describes very well. Unfortunately, what's happening to Brooks is an example of karma writ large, for everyone to see.
