Boston on lockdown during marathon manhunt for white-hat suspect

Boston and its surburbs, universities and transit system were on total lockdown Friday as police hunted for marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev -- on the loose after his accomplice brother was killed in a stunning chain of events that left one cop dead and another injured, officials said.

Authorities were confronting a double-edged nightmare: a ruthless killer at large in a densely populated area and a four-mile stretch of road possibly littered with explosive devices tossed from the suspects' getaway vehicle during a wild chase and firefights.

Two unidentified people were taken into custody at the Cambridge, Mass., home where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan grew up, but they were not being described as additional suspects. Three dozen FBI agents were ringing the house.

Across the area, as police cars screamed down streets and helicopters hovered ahead, authorities urged the public to stay inside, their doors locked to anyone but a law-enforcement officer.

MSNBC just a few minutes ago said the family is from Kyrgyzstan. Parents not in country, brothers may have lived with aunt and uncle. Uncle has given interviews and is devastated.

Bombing Suspects’ Uncle: They Do Not Deserve To Live On This Earth
April 19, 2013 8:45 AM
BOSTON (CBS) – The uncle of the two men suspected in the Boston Marathon bombings says they had lived together in Cambridge for about a decade.

WBZ-TV spoke with the suspects’ uncle, Ruslan Tsarni. Tsarni says Dzhokar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev immigrated to the United States around 2000 or 2001, and have lived at the same Cambridge address since that time.

According to Tsarni, Dzhokar completed high school in Cambridge and was attending college somewhere outside of Boston.

Tsarni, who says he hasn’t been in touch with the brothers since around 2009, tells WBZ-TV he believes that the brothers’ parents may have moved back to Russia.

This does qualify the uncle's comment - he "believes" the parents moved back to Russia.

This was on CNN. I have seen otherwise on AP, but I also read that the suspects have been there for either 8 or 12 or 13 years. So clearly, people do not know anything.

Frankly, we see the media at their worst. Let's wait until there is a news briefing.

ABC is reading a translated statement said to be from the boys' father in Russia.

So basically we don't know what the hell to believe.

Westboro Church still haven't announced they would picket that 26-year old bomber's funeral.... That would be further the proof that they are an Anti-American people.

6. Bombing suspects were local, ‘normal’ US immigrants: Boston Globe

By Mark Arsenault, Globe Staff

Suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing appeared to embody the best of the American immigrant experience, having come from southern Russia, near war-torn Chechnya, more than five years ago, and assimilated into the local Cambridge community and culture.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, the alleged bomber pictured in a dark hat in FBI videos released Thursday, was a talented boxer with hopes of joining the US Olympic team. He was reportedly killed overnight in a shootout with police.

His brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, the suspect seen in FBI photos in a white cap, was a member of the class of 2011 at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, and won a Cambridge City Scholarship that year. He was on the run Friday morning and the target of an unprecedented manhunt in Greater Boston.

People who knew the suspects are struggling this morning to reconcile the young men they knew, who lived on Norfolk Street in Cambridge, with the acts of terrorism they are accused of committing.

bombings and firefights in the streets of america that sound like something out of vietnam, as far as I'm concerned. I bet it unsettled a lot of Iraq/Afghanistan vets also that live in those areas. Man!!!! Fucking amazing what's going on in this the 21st century A.D.

In a weird way, I'm almost relieved that it was an outgrowth of the search for the bombers rather than an entirely new incident.
