CNN in talks with Newt Gingrich, Stephanie Cutter for new 'Crossfire' show

Source: Politico

Earlier this month, news broke that CNN was looking to relaunch Crossfire, the famous debate show that pitted two pundits -- one liberal, one conservative -- against one another on the political issues of the day.

Sources now tell POLITICO that the network is in discussions with former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and former Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter about roles on the show.

"They are talking to Cutter and to Gingrich," a source familiar with the discussions said. "[Cutter] is in discussions; Newt is in discussions too," another source confirmed.

Spokespeople with CNN did not respond to a request for comment regarding the news. Both Cutter and a Gingrich spokesperson did not respond to emails requesting confirmation.

does a society get from having a loony idiot like him making political commentary on television? I'm really glad I cut myself completely from cable TV...

I could barely stomach that ghoul Novak (and no, him being dead doesn't change a thing) and watching Bowtie Boy Tucker made me have violent tendencies toward my television remote. And now you want to put the king of slime Gingrich? Thank god I cut the cord to cable television years ago. Saved me years of frustration.

A moderator will not be able to control his constant interruptions of those that confront his garbage. Nothing will be based on fact because that is not what Gingrich does. I still remember his handshake deal with President Clinton that he backed out on the very next day. He has no fidelity to anything except brand Gingrich. Certainly not his many wives. Maybe a monolog on Fox News but nothing serious for Gingrich. It can't possibly last.

about her. I think it shows the slant CNN would put on the show- it would be Republican Newt's program and guest.

Although she was Obama's "deputy" campaign director she did most of the media heavy lifting for live interviews. She never gave an inch to the Republicans and threw the grenades they kept throwing at Obama right back into their faces. I'm not saying she is reason enough to watch the show but she is no light weight.

It would follow the famous and highly entertaining AND professionally produced;

""Point-Counterpoint" segments with (Shana Alexander, who took over for Nicholas von Hoffman) Kilpatrick at the end of each "60 Minutes" broadcast in the late 1970s."

I don't even hate him - that's giving him an iota of respect.

No - see Newtie boy there is too wet to step on and waaaaaaaay too low to kick. He doesn't merit anyone's attention. Especially not mine.

Now if they brought back "Equal Time", the old show that pitted Stephanie Miller against Bay Buchanan, that I would watch. They canceled it I believe because Steph always got the better of Bay every time.

Look....nobody wins every aspect of every debate, especially when repeatedly going against the best the other side offers. She won a lot more than she lost, for sure. Looking at the broad picture, she was tough and quick on her feet during the campaign. On a side note, her rapid response "I'm calling BS on this" YouTube videos were exceedingly effective. She will do very well if she and Newt battle on the show. It certainly will not be "Newt and a 'guest'".
