Ed Schultz, Karen Finney Weekend Shows Get Premiere Date

Source: Huffington Post

MSNBC announced on Thursday that "The Ed Show" will return to MSNBC in May.

Last month, Schultz announced that he would take his primetime show to the weekends. Though he insisted that it was his decision, rumors swirled that the network was looking to replace him for some time. MSNBC moved Chris Hayes, who previously hosted a weekend show on the network, to the primetime spot.

The network also announced the creation of contributor Karen Finney's weekend show, which will serve as a lead-in to Schultz's program.

"The Ed Show" will return on Saturday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m. as a one-hour program. It will expand to a two-hour program over the summer. Finney's show will debut on the same date, from 4-5:00 p.m.

11. And 2 fewer hours of mindless "Lockup"/"Caught on Camera"/"To Catch a Predator" drivel on weekends!

Heh, I bet those shows are nowadays the only reason why Republicans would watch MSNBC.

Rachel is the only show I watch now. Also, I rarely spend my Saturday afternoons watching pundit shows.

It was a major mistake to replace Ed with Hayes. Remember when they replaced Obermann with O'Donnell. What is MSNBC thinking about?

I like Olbermann, but sometimes it was hard to follow what he was trying to get across. Lawrence is precise, and to the point, and a very smart man. What happened to Olbermann?

I was getting worried there for a moment. I thought it was supposed to be a couple of weeks ago he would start new slot. Well, finally. Have something to look forward to. Ed has missed a lot of stuff.

Ed's show appears to compete with 60 Minutes in the final hour. And both will be going against football in the fall -- college games on Saturdays, NFL on Sundays. And since they are debuting in the summertime, when the days are longer and people are outdoors...

Have to give them some eyes and hope they can pull the numbers that the prison shows did. (Rachel Maddow alluded to the ATM machine that 'Lockup', and 'Predator' are.)

15. Chris Hayes was a mistake.

Normally, I left the TV on MSNBC to watch Rev. Sharpton, Chris Matthews (although I rarely sat through an entire show), The Ed Show, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell. Now, when Chris Hayes is on, I find myself doing other things or changing the channel. Chris always acts like he's got ants in his pants or something. He bounces on his chair and is too animated for me. Rachel is animated as well, but she doesn't do it in an annoying way, she does it to emphasize something. Chris acts like he's on speed.

Personally, I thought Ed was a better fit in that time slot, and MSNBC lost me as a dedicated viewer for that hour with this change.

Glad Ed will be on weekends, and I also like Karen Finney, looking forward to both of their shows. Joy Reid needs a show as well, I think she's very intelligent and I agree with most of her points. She almost always adds something to whichever show she guests on, and I think would do well with her own show.

I'll keep giving Chris a chance, but so far he hasn't hooked me.

Yes, he was a good part of the team during the elections, and he made more sense than some others, like Chris Matthews.

I'm keeping an open mind, perhaps he will age into the show better as he gets used to it. Rachel Maddow was always excellent, I thought, but she got better after her show was on the air a few months.

I'm glad to see progressive cable is expanding with more shows, we surely need opposing views to be spoken.

18. He's good but he needs a valium ...

... it's nearly impossible to sit through his show without having a panic attack because he's talking like a 6-th grader trying to get through a "book report in front of the whole class".

He needs to breathe, practice timing, or as I mentioned take a valium before he blows a gasket.
