Boston Bombing Suspects Had First Planned Attack for July Fourth

Source: NYTimes

Boston Bombing Suspects Had First Planned Attack for July Fourth
WASHINGTON ? The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings told F.B.I. interrogators that, as he and his brother plotted their deadly assault, they considered suicide attacks and striking on the Fourth of July, according to a law enforcement official.
But the suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, told investigators that he and his brother, Tamerlan, 26, who was killed in a shootout with the police, ultimately decided to use pressure-cooker bombs and other homemade explosive devices, the official said.
The brothers finished building the bombs in Tamerlan’s apartment in Cambridge, Mass., faster than they anticipated and so decided to accelerate their attack to the Boston Marathon on April 15, Patriots Day in Massachusetts, from July, according to the account that Dzhokhar provided authorities. They picked the finish line of the marathon after driving around the Boston area looking for alternative sites, according to this account.
In addition, Mr. Dzhokhar told authorities that he and his brother viewed the Internet sermons of Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical American cleric who moved to Yemen and was killed in September 2011 by an American drone strike. There is no indication that the brothers communicated with Mr. Awakli before his death.

"But that controversy was merely about whether he would be advised of his Miranda rights. Now, the Los Angeles Times, almost in passing, reports something which, if true, would be a much more serious violation of core rights than delaying Miranda warnings - namely, that prior to the magistrate's visit to his hospital room, Tsarnaev had repeatedly asked for a lawyer, but the FBI simply ignored those requests, instead allowing the interagency High Value Detainee Interrogation Group to continue to interrogate him alone..."

5. Basically, they won't "bag" him for anything he said before his Miranda was given.

That's the bottom line. They could technically do it, but why bother, and risk an appeal on that basis?

His right to counsel wasn't "denied" (though it sounds really dire and dramatic to say that)--it was delayed, and they had the law on their side--the public safety exemption--to effect that delay.

But here's the real bottom line--he doesn't have to open his mouth. He doesn't have to say anything, ever. He can keep his lip zipped, he doesn't have to make a peep. They've got enough dashcam video, surveillance video along Boylston Street and elsewhere, photos/video from people at the scene of the bombing, and forensic evidence--to include that lovely laptop-- to convict this guy ten times over and send him off to the Table And The Needle without him opening his mouth once. They've also got his sister-in-law on the hot seat, and she might decide that she remembers more than she's pretending she doesn't as time goes by.

This is why he has such a high quality public defense. His only available position is to bargain for his life. His legal team may be telling him this sooner rather than later, as more information comes to the fore.

All I can say is, I'm glad he didn't ruin the 4th of July. It's bad enough that he fucked with Patriot's Day. The guy is an asshole. I hope he cuts a deal, and spares the country the expense of a trial--it's going to cost us plenty to keep the little shithead alive for the next sixty to seventy years, why spend millions on top of that for a change of venue, followed by what will be a foregone conclusion?

10. way to pre-judge him

frankly, I have a hard time believing the govt in these terrorism cases-- they had a history of making shit up. There's been so much contradictory info put out in this case already. The bit about al-Awlaki is just too convenient.

I won't be on the jury, so I can pre-judge that murdering little shithead all I'd like.

I am a sentient being, and confessions--even when not accompanied by a Miranda--tend to resonate with me. When my friends and neighbors are injured and killed by a little fuckhead who wanted to kill my friends and neighbors at the Hatch Shell on the 4th of July, I tend to take a little bit of umbrage.

But you go on with your bad self, and don't worry your head--like I said, I won't be sitting on that guilty fucker's jury. If he's smart, he'll make a deal to spare his lousy, miserable, empty, stupid and selfish life.

Interestingly, something like that actually happened to the Weather Underground way back when. They were planning a terror attack and blew themselves and their own house up.

4. In other news, that "female DNA" does not belong to the WIDOW Tsarnaeva.

But she's not off the hook, yet:

As part of those efforts, the authorities have sought to determine whether fingerprints and DNA found on bomb fragments were from Ms. Russell. According to two other law enforcement officials, Ms. Russell’s fingerprints and DNA do not match those found on the fragments. All of the law enforcement officials were granted anonymity because they did not want to be identified discussing a continuing investigation.

Federal authorities are skeptical of Ms. Russell’s insistence that she played no role in the attack or in helping the brothers elude the authorities after the F.B.I. released photographs of them. That skepticism has been stoked by Ms. Russell’s decision in recent days to stop cooperating with the authorities.

"do the DNA" when they check a prisoner into the Heartbreak Hotel.

They'd be able to tell if it was his mama.

9. "We" discuss police gestapo tactics on DU quite often.

We (the majority here) believe very little "official accounts" because they have proven themselves to be B.S. I do not know that these suspects are guilty. The police sure tried to kill the last surviving suspect and (shot in the throat) it is a wonder that they didn't.
They KNEW he was unarmed yet they ravaged, with heavy fire and artillery, the boat that he was hiding under.
The bombs were barbaric but for some reason, were not detonated when they would have caused maximum damage. This tragedy was convenient in that it drew attention from other news and will give a solid basis for more spying.
I can only hope that the true culprits have been negated, I still do not believe the official narrative. In no way am I attempting to diminish this horrific act or its victims. Alex Jones is insane. I just want the truth.

What utter horseshit.

Your theories are stupid and sickening. Offensive in the extreme, beyond "woo" and not worthy of this website.

You should be ashamed of yourself. You don't want the truth, you want drama.

http://www.businessinsider.com/stunning-infrared-photos-show-how-police-could-see-bombing-suspect-hiding-in-boat-2013-4

This was just my first arbitrary pick when I googled the images. Bill Maher had great footage a couple of weeks ago. The cops, using infrared imaging could (and did) watch him as clearly as if it were daylight and they were under the boat with him.
I have nothing else to say to your rude, unquestioning ass. well...grow-up..

14. And now you're going to have to show us how a cold gun "shows up" on infrared imaging.

Or a pipe bomb.

And he wasn't "under" the boat.

He was IN it. The boat was covered by a plastic, tight fitting tarp, of the type customarily used by boaters in this region, to preserve their vessel during the off season while it is out of the water, as that boat was.

Your facts are out of order. We in MA have seen more of that infrared footage than anyone else in the country. We've also heard the scanner transmissions where they cops get involved in crossfire and realized their error and yelled for a cease-fire. None of this is a deep dark secret, it's out in the open.

Your last sentence, where you make a childish and snarky comment about my "rude, unquestioning ass?" Well, we learn a lot from that, don't we?

First, we learn who the rude one is.

Second, we learn that the rude one doesn't like to be challenged, and accuses people who have their facts in line of being "unquestioning."

Third, we learn that the rude one doesn't know how to have a civil conversation on the internet.

Fourth, we learn that someone does indeed need to "grow up"...and so long as we're reverting to the schoolyard, here's one for ya: He who smelt it, ,dealt it.

So you have one of those real nice days, now....since, as you took pains to note, you have nothing else to say.
