The University of Wyoming Police Department issued a citation Monday afternoon in Albany County Circuit Court for Meg Lanker-Simons, a woman allegedly threatened last week in a social media post authorities now contend was a hoax.
The citation is for interference, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment up to a year and a fine up to $1,000.
"Subject admitted to making a controversial post on UW Crushes webpage and then lied about not doing it," according to the citation.

(3,959 posts)be someone else in order to frame him for the threat. If it's true, and I believe in the presumption of innocence, she sounds like the marginal personality that can turn violent.

(6,342 posts)She threatened herself with rape by making the post sound like it was written by a Republican. And then used that to drum up controversy in her blog and with on-campus rallies.
That's what she is being accused of doing, anyway...

(90,061 posts)The inventing of incidents that support their PR efforts when they don't happen of their own accord. I mean, it's Breitbart, isn't it? The riot in Florida in 2000? The fake scientific studies? And who can forget the Yellow Cake? Etc.
If she's a Dem, I would not know whether to praise her for learning from her enemies or condemn her for stooping to their level.

Weirdest newspaper name in the nation?
Star-Ledger (Newark, NJ)
Plain Dealer (Cleveland, OH)
Post-Intelligencer (Seattle, WA)
Press-Democrat (Santa Rosa, CA)
Republican (Springfield, MA, a liberal area whose newspaper was named Republican in the 19th century but name now an anachronism)
Any paper with an obscurity "Telegram" in its name like in Fort Worth, TX
American-Statesman (Austin, TX)
Mercury News (in my hometown San Jose, CA!)
Greenwich Time (actually exists in Greenwich, CT...naming a newspaper after a time zone
But BOOMERANG?
Oh, the woman is full of it.

(25,586 posts)Like most goofy names it was the product of a merger, but when I was a kid I just found it so irredeemably dumb that I refused to read it.

(6,665 posts)She is encountering a host of other people who are not unlike her--using the anonymity of the Internet to stir up trouble. She is clearly disturbed, and no doubt this has cornered her into a crisis. Once this might have been confined to a local level, she would have written herself a note or thrown a rock through her window or written on her face with a marker. But the Internet is a two edged sword. She got her hoax out quickly, and no doubt had a few days of attention and desired results. But now it has blown up in her face. I hope she has family and friends who can take care of her, as well as a good therapist.
