S.Korea Pays US$13 Million to Pull Out of Kaesong

South Korea paid North Korea US$13 million before pulling the last seven South Korean staffers out of the Kaesong Industrial Complex on Friday.

The bill included $7.2 million in wages for March to be paid to North Korean workers, corporate taxes of $4 million and $1.7 million in other back pay claimed by Pyongyang, including communication fees.

North and South Korean officials haggled for five days over how much money the South owed. Pyongyang initially demanded much more than the $13 million that was eventually paid while effectively holding the seven South Koreans hostage...
