Texas congressman's re-election campaign will give away a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle...

Source: UK Daily Mail Online

By David Martosko - 9 May 2013

One supporter of freshman congressman Steve Stockman will win the gun, subject to a background check

A crazed gunman used an AR-15 to kill at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012

The top Democratic National Committee spokesman tweeted, 'Just had to pick that gun, huh?'

NRA partisans argued on Twitter that an armed guard could have stopped Lanza before he massacred 20 children and six adults

The fact that they use liberal or lib as a perjorative continually shows they've given up reason, and any respect for law and equality - if they ever had any!

To win the AR-15 the person must pass a background check. Yet Stockman would allow that same person to buy that AR-15 over the Internet without a background check. If Stockman is going to talk the talk he should walk the walk by insisting that no background check takes place. Obviously I think this is a stupid stunt with or without the background check.

Requires a background check. Has to be sold by an FFL, and then shipped to a FFL close to the buyer. The FFL does the b/g check. By law.

Now, if you're talking PRIVATE sale, that's different. But private sale can't take place on the internet. Has to take place in person. When people starting bringing up buying guns on the internet, what they are really referring to is craigslist and other classified ad sites. You don't purchase through the site, you do it in person. Big difference than "buying a gun on the internet".

With that said, I don't support what Stockman is doing. There were a few truck dealers in Central Florida that did a similar thing a couple years ago. Caught a LOT of backlash for it. Crazy is what it is. Eventually, they're gonna rile up the base a bit too much...

40% of all gun sales are not subject to a background check -- and that study is not current so it is likely higher than that.

Both the Virginia Tech shooter and a shooter in Wisconsin bought their weapons from the same online gun seller and neither went through a background check.

But whether I didn't say it quite right doesn't matter regarding the main point I was making. Substitute private seller at a gun show then. The point was to contrast what Stockman is saying and how he is voting. But you help point out how difficult it is to get accurate information in this day and age. Bottom line the current system is broken and needs a major overhaul and Stockman seems to understand this by requiring that the winner of his AR-15 passes a background check while vote to allow at least 40% of guns to be sold without the background check. And don't get me started on straw purchases like the one that ended with the Colorado prison official being murdered.

Does the angle giving a rifle away for campaign donations smack of corruption?

Another poster and I talked above, is it likes buying votes? Same?

Similiar? Not in the same ballpark?

They are more and more insane, for every day it goes, they act and play more and more insane...

But then again, this is the country where Kinder egg is illegal but where you can walk to a store and buy whatever weapon your heart desire... It is something here, about prioritizing what is important, and what is not - I'm not sure - but for me gun-control is far more important, than to make kinder egg illegal - and still Kinder egg IS illegal in all 50 states in the US.. But AR-15 are not...

Euripides is reputed to have said:

Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.

Or in the Latin:

Quem deus vult perdere, dementat prius

Abraham Lincoln said in times like these:

If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

I believe change is coming to heal us of our national illness, but before that, all the wounds with all their filth must be exposed and cleansed. The process will be frightening and painful.

The old greeks, had their way of saying something that last for millenniums do they?.. And Euripides was living in a age, where the greeks really was going mad, in their pursuit of power over the others...

Abraham Lincoln is also a man who had a way with words - and sometimes he hit the nail better than anyone else in later ages have been able to do it... But then again, I doubt he would have been a republican in todays climate - as he was a sane person, and would not have been electable in todays republican party... I doubt any sane conservatives or republicans is electable to other than local political work this days - as the insanity have hit the republican harder than most people is given them credit for... They have really managed to mess up the republican party, with this christian right wing neo-conservative ideology... And I'm afraid they are not finish yet - if hey ever got elected into office again on a national level - it will be the politely of the insanity that prevail for years to come.. And I doubt they will finish if they are given the possibility, to make the whole US a wreck of its former glory... And then blame everyone else than their self..

Change will come - but as you say, it will be a painfully exposing of what is in the culture of weapons - and I doubt it will be any easy way to go true it either.. In fact I fear it will not end, before some extremely nasty is happening in the US, where many is hurt, on a national stage... Then maybe, just maybe enough americans will say, enough is enough..

And I hope the Secret Service is keeping a aye on all this - as the right wing will do anything less, than trying to get the President out of the office, one way or another - they have more than once threatened with open revolt against the current President - and something tell me, that if they could, they would kill him.. The right really seen to hate President Obama, for sure...
