Ohio: DNA Confirms Castro Is Girl's Father

Source: Yahoo News / Sky News

Preliminary DNA tests have confirmed that a kidnap and rape suspect in Ohio is the father of a six-year-old girl rescued from his home along with her mother and two other women.

Attorney General Mike DeWine's office confirmed Ariel Castro's paternity in a news release on Friday.

Mr DeWine said a sample of Castro's DNA was taken on Thursday and forensic scientists worked through the night on the case.

The girl is the daughter of Amanda Berry, who authorities say was held for about a decade in Castro's house in Cleveland along with Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.

I guess her body didn't shut that whole thing down in time. Or maybe the rape just wasn't legitimate enough.

apart from the prison thing, every state (except for a couple of southern ones) has laws that strongly discourage child custody, even part-time, for rapists who produce children. Could you imagine a judge granting any kind of custody to a horrible creature such as this guy? I couldn't, and I've seen a lot of creeps of both genders get custody of their kids.

but is refusing to see them both. She had lost custody of her own child and when she disappeared, they thought she had run away. I think the mother filed a missing person's report but there were no vigils or anything like that for her. Sounds like a complicated family relationship. Here's some of the story:

Just think, she has never even been outside, known anything except her house prison and few people there, probably malnourished; never been to school, seen other children. Her mental, educational, physical state must be severely compromised.

A twisted mind and a control freak.
He did similar things to his other children.

In a torturous ritual, the three women were served cake and dinner in a celebration of their "abduction days," as their "new birthdays" according to a cousin of a victim who spoke to The New York Times. The women were also forced to watch heartbreaking TV coverage of the vigils held in their honor by the families of the missing.
...

Figueroa's father, Ismail Figueroa, said Wednesday that Castro would regularly lock his daughter inside a second-floor apartment in the house where they lived when they were first together.

Later, when they moved a few blocks to the house Castro purchased — the house from which, years later, the women would escape — he kept a close eye on her and refused to let people come inside to visit her or even let her pick up their children from school, said Angel Villanueva, who is married to Grimilda Figueroa's sister.

Grimilda was "not allowed to go nowhere," said Villanueva. No matter where she wanted to go, "it had to be with him."

They were both arrested because they had outstanding warrants from a decade old open alcoholic container charges. Pedro Castro pled no contest and the charges were dropped against Onil Castro.

The police say that the victims were only ever outside twice and that was to go from the house to the garage in disguise and that they weren't on dog leashes. The police also say that no such calls were ever made to them.

Obvioisly local media outlets with connections have more information.
Lydia Esparra from 19actionnews even spoke to Gina in her house. Foreign press still names all three brothers as rapists.

...I mean how many people could have been in the interrogation or had access to reports thereof?

Lydia Esparra seems like an excellent person, she's not reporting any of this and the Mayor's comment could merely be proactive rather than reactive.

Suffice to say, until I see it from a source with direct knowledge of the investigation or in a court of law, I personally am not believing unsubstantiated information.

After the three girls escaped, police arrested Castro and his brother, Onil, in the McDonald's parking lot on Clark Avenue. Police blocked in Castro's blue Mazda Miata convertible.

After they were handcuffed, Onil Castro asked police if this was about his brother, Pedro. "If so, he's over at our mom's house on Hyde Avenue," the report states.

Police responding to the address found Pedro Castro passed out in the backyard of the home wearing a pair of shorts but no shirt.

All three of the Castro brothers were taken to the Second District Police Station.
