IRS: Current Acting Commissioner Learned Of Targeting In May 2012

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service says acting IRS Commissioner Steven T. Miller was first informed in May 2012 that tea party groups were inappropriately targeted for scrutiny.

A month later he wrote a member of Congress to explain the process of reviewing applications for tax-exempt status without mentioning the controversy.

Over the past year, numerous lawmakers raised concerns with the IRS about complaints that tea party groups were being harassed. Each time the agency responded without mentioning that groups had been targeted. Miller provided some of those responses.

The agency apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was “inappropriate” targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see whether they were violating their tax-exempt status. In some cases, the IRS acknowledged, agents inappropriately asked for lists of donors.

but I think its reasonable for the IRS to check up on people openly profess to hate and even threaten them. I never saw any one friek out when the IRS targeted anyone else. Maybe I missed that. and as for the Bengazi scandal , that was a CIA thing. Why dont they investigate the CIA?

how the Tea party or Patriot Party is not connected to political activity? The claim by the media and everyone is they don't support any candidates but they are labeled conservative organizations. So they are telling us all these Tea party candidates in Congress of the GOP are not politicians now? Weren't their job suppose to be checking for groups connected to political activity? I also understand they weren't the only ones that were checked but the agents looked for the best signs to determine which applicants to check and they went by Tea and Patriot. I don't see anything wrong with that process at all. As far as I'm concerned, the Tea party and Pratiot party are connected to politics. Donot tell me they don't endorse candidates especially conservatives. This whole argument is phony. The politicians and media might agree with it but i don't think the average person would. Probably those low level employees thought so too. I guess the people in Congress and got us in a illegal War are smarter than us or live in their own Universe.

Shulman didn't leave the IRS until November 2012.

So, they can't blame this on the current 'acting' commissioner Miller.

to indicate his appointment was being held up. The former Commissioner, a Bush hold over, resigned effective November 12, 2012. Until this report contained in the OP was released, every incident of review occurred under the Bush holdover.
