MINNESOTA GOV. DAYTON SIGNS GAY MARRIAGE BILL

By PATRICK CONDON

— May. 14 6:16 PM EDT

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has signed a bill that legalizes gay marriage, making the state the 12th to do so.

Cheering spectators filled the south lawn of the state Capitol for the outdoor ceremony, with rainbow and American flags fluttering in a sweltering breeze.

Dayton thanked legislators for political courage before signing the bill.

His signature came just a day after the state Senate approved it.

I'm just waiting for Michelle Bachmann (R-Mars) to fall to her knees and begin screeching a sermon that would do the "Children of the Corn" proud.

Gotta keep He Who Walks Behind The Rows happy, you know.

"I can assure you that gay people getting married will have zero effect on your life. They won't come into your house and steal your children. They won't magically turn you into a lustful cockmonster." --Chris Kluwe in a letter PWNING a dumbass state legislator who demanded another NFL player stop supporting gay marriage

Oh, sorry fellow DUers, the story about Michele Bachmann leaving Minnesota is SATIRE.

But GOOD JOB MARK DAYTON & MINNESOTA DEMOCRATS!!

To be funny again, I wonder if Wisconsin will elect another right wing governor after Scott Walker because of all the fundagelicals fleeing Minnesota? The Dakotas also are crazy right enough.

And i wonder how many dumbass Minnesota right wingers will try to sneak into Canada (which passed Gay Marriage 8 years ago!)?

Get married amid snow drifts and nestled pines. A little frostbite might do you some good.

Good news.

On a related note, although I'd be happy if the Supreme Court legalizes marriage equality nationally, I am rather enjoying seeing the state-by-state progress unfold. It will end up putting great pressure on the hold-out states ultimately. Corporations will have a problem with the lack of marriage equality in fact.

The only thing I can guess is that California started with gay marriage too early: it got shot down with "proposition 8."
That has been the only election I've ever had my vote stolen in.
It was a nasty election.
I'm sure if we tried again now, that proposition would be beat down to the depths of hell where it belongs.
Again, congrats Minnesota!

Naturally, I voted against it, but was so preoccupied with making sure a Democrat got into the White House (after the 8-year nightmare that was the Bush administration) that I didn't pay attention otherwise. When Prop 8 passed, my first thought was that it was just another setback and we could settle it next time around.

It was not until the story very belatedly came out about who backed it, who financed it, and how many lies they told -- and I mean really belatedly did this story make the major newspapers -- not until then did the full horror sink in to me. I believe there are people who voted for it who would never do so again, now that the truth is out. We were very ill-served by our news media.

So yeah, it was a nasty election, and I trust that you are right about beating that thing down to the depths of Hell on the next pass. California should be leading the way, not trailing behind shamefacedly.

Congratulations to the good people of Minnesota.
