Boise man arrested as part of federal terrorism investigation

BOISE Fazliddin Kurbanov, 30, was arrested Thursday in Boise as part of a federal terrorism investigation, according to an announcement from the Justice Department.
Kurbanov, an Uzbekistan national, legally present in the United States, has been living in Boise. Authorities are searching an apartment near Borah High School on the corner of Cassia and Curtis Road.
Grand jury indictment unsealed in both Idaho and Utah allege Kurbanov worked to support a terrorist group in Uzbekistan, and taught others how to make and use explosive devices earlier this year.
Kurbanov will make his initial appearance before a judge Friday in U.S. District Court in Boise. He will be transferred to Utah at the conclusion of the prosecution in Idaho.

... Kurbanov was arrested after an extensive investigation into his activities in Idaho and Utah late last year and this year. A federal grand jury indictment charges Kurbanov with one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, and one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and possession of an unregistered explosive device.
A separate federal grand jury in Utah also returned an indictment charging Kurbanov with distributing information about explosives, bombs and weapons of mass destruction.

The Idaho indictment alleges that between August 2012 and May 2013, Kurbanov knowingly conspired with others to provide support and resources, including computer software and money, to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, which the U.S. has identified as a terrorist organization.
