$590M-plus Powerball: 1 winning ticket sold in Fla

Source: AP

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — It's all about the odds, and one lone ticket in Florida has beaten them all by matching each of the numbers drawn for the highest Powerball jackpot in history at an estimated $590.5 million, lottery officials said Sunday.

The single winner was sold at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla., according to Florida Lottery executive Cindy O'Connell. She told The Associated Press by telephone that more details would be released later.

"This would be the sixth Florida Powerball winner and right now, it's the sole winner of the largest ever Powerball jackpot," O'Connell told AP. "We're delighted right now that we have the sole winner."

She said Florida has had more Powerball winners than any other state.

for the next one.

I really enjoyed it. Interesting show on many levels. Great fantasy played out with "regular" people.

That'll only leave the winner with a mere $325,000,000 or so, maybe even less. That's not even enough to maintain your very own Airbus 380 and a Manhattan penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park. One or the other, maybe, but probably not both.

Becoming an instant zillionaire looks like it ain't what it used to be......

1) Lottery prize is an unearned income. Thus, no Social security or medicare tax

2) Florida is a no income tax state. Thus, no state level income tax.

but it'd be better if they had 590 $1 million winners.

It's an inexpensive form of entertainment, much like a movie. a little bit of excitement for $2. You can't even get into the matinée on a major discount for two bucks!

Not to mention the fact that a slim chance will be forever better than no chance. Besides, the time to play is now. Everyone is bummed out that they didn't win, and won't be thinking of playing again until the next pot is astronomically high. Your chances of winning the next pot have just gone up
