At least 91 killed in Moore tornado, hundreds injured -(UPDATE - NOW REPORTING 24)

Source: From KFOR TV, Oklahoma City

MOORE, Okla. – Officials have confirmed at least 91 people have been killed in the Moore tornado Monday.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed at least 233 people have been injured.

That number is expected to rise.

The tornado claimed an unconfirmed number of children at Moore’s Plaza Towers Elementary.

Well, some blowhard Senator might ask for offsets to provide aid. I suggest we tell him (or her) to go to hell.

May the victims rest in peace...

Here, just fyi, is an interactive map showing the path of three big storms through Moore in 1999, 2003, and 2013,

http://kfor.com/2013/05/20/interactive-map-1999-2003-2013-moore-tornadoes/

If you zoom in, and move a little to the left, there is a housing addition just East of 134th and Western, right across the street from a fairly large (for the area) mobile home park. Those three storms went on either side, or didn't hit the ground until they were past it. Their statistical chances of being hit are probably no greater, but I wonder if they stay because there is a big cellar in the middle of the park? Perhaps better survivability than the homes across the street in that newer housing addition, the majority of which probably have no cellar and no safe rooms, I would bet.

A later report from the Medical Examiner's office -

Medical Examiner’s Office: 24 killed in Moore tornado, 9 children

http://kfor.com/2013/05/21/medical-examiners-office-confirmed-24-killed-in-moore-tornado-9-children/

MOORE, Okla. – The medical examiner’s office has confirmed 24 people have been killed in Monday’s Moore tornado.

Amy Ellis with the medical examiner’s office said of the 24, nine are children.

Ellis said in a press conference Tuesday seven of those children were found in the Plaza Towers elementary school and two more were found elsewhere. She said that number may continue to rise.

Monday the death toll was reported at 51 and then at 91. Officials said those numbers may have been inflated because of double reporting the fatalities.

while the blowhard Senator is asked to come to the front and given the opportunity to apologize to the residents of the northeast coast for his vote against aid for their part of the country.

Honestly, seeing a bunch of Republicans vote against aid for victims of Sandy was the worst example of regional antagonism I have ever seen in government.

My idea would shame him in front of the Senate and by extension, his party. Then of course aid would be approved, whether he had the personal integrity to apologize or not.

cousins who had a big place on 134th, where they built and still(?) run a trailer park, if it is still there. He built a big cellar in the middle, which I hope was full of people when this thing passed over. I haven't figured out if it got hit or if it was just on the edge again. This storm was further South, than the big one a few years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised.

My sister used to live in a house in Moore. The storm in 1999 tossed steel beams from the elementary school across the street into their living room, destroyed nearly everything around them. Killed one of their dogs, and they and the son that was home wound up in the hospital with concussions. I called her tonight, and I could hear the shaking in her voice, even though they live on the other side of town now. Memories...

It's weird, to come from a time in that state, previously one of the most more-or-less progressive places, when it was a novelty to see a Republican even get elected governor, now to see the current crop of asshats actually getting support.

just what sort of assholes have been lying to them for their votes. It's a hell of a wakeup call that cost too many families too much--their homes, their children, everything they had.

People I met driving through Oklahoma were some of the nicest on the trips. I never could quite reconcile that with the assholes they keep sending to Washington to represent them.

grocery, wherever, especially when I use the "y'all" word. They seem a little taken aback that a stranger would say anything. Sometimes they start talking, and then seem to catch themselves, almost seeming to realize this whole talking to another human they didn't know is a little out of character.

But how the hell they turned so right-wing I will never understand...maybe it was the pickup truck fumes.

They need to realize those preachers have been telling them to vote for crooks for years.

Many of the older folk, who would now be 70-90+, were and still are solidly Democrat. One can find many examples of something else, but the majority of those seem to still be D. Many of them went through some very hard years, and learned what conservative ideologies could do to them.

It seems like the younger crowd, who would have been 20-30's back then, moving in as the city began to expand, are the ones who today have moved it so far to the right.

And a great number do seem to follow their church around like puppies, so tat is certainly a major influence.

these people and mis-directed their anger to poor people and minorities! The media owned by General Electric, Comcast, Rupert Murdock et al., are the ones that have controlled us. They run the FCC which controls the PUBLIC airwaves. They are OUR airwaves. Lets separate news from entertainment again! Walter Cronkite would never have dreamed of doing anything other than to tell the facts. He told the facts of Vietnam from his personal observations and thus spoke truth to power. Now we get an ABC reporter who runs with a story based on a lie. A recollection of a quote from a document the reporter never saw and verified. Why verify anymore when he knows his bosses make it up whenever they choose anyway.

That is about 15 minutes from Moore. She said the force of these storms were so strong, she heard them tearing up the buildings 15 miles away. She may be exaggerating a bit, but she is traumatized. No basement in her house, it is built on bedrock and a bulldozer can barely dig down 6 inches before they need blasting equipment.

a big FU to all the republicans who threaten to hold-up gov assistance.

Where the heck is someone in charge in OK. to get up TODAY at the least a tent city with 1,000 family sized dwellings so the displaced have a central place to live. Locate all the assistance agencies right there as-well.

Looks like with the jet stream so very low, warm air pushing up from the gulf- the extreme storms will continue.

I'm in near Houston, when the jet stream dipped down this far we had 70 degree days when last year it was 100 degrees at the same time. Last 2 weeks we had over 10 inches of rain in 2 hours of rainfall.

Our weather is changing and we need to deal with this. Gov. officials, mostly republicans who fuck-up disaster planning and relief need to be replaced with more competent officials.
