House Speaker derails Fallin's plan to save Insure Oklahoma

Source: Tulsa World

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon pulled the plug Monday on Gov. Mary Fallin's plans to save the Insure Oklahoma program, which provides health care for working poor Oklahomans.

As a result, 9,000 people will lose their subsidized insurance coverage, leading Fallin to challenge Shannon to come up with a better idea.

In a statement released Monday after the cancellation of a House conference committee meeting to consider the Fallin plan, Shannon said, "It is unfortunate these Oklahomans will be without health insurance due to President Obama's policies, despite the guarantees that everyone would be covered.

"This is exactly what happens when government goes into the health-care business. Taxpayers are burdened, and promises to recipients run the risk of being broken."

"I don't believe providing health insurance is a proper or efficient function of government," he said. "As conservatives, we should stand against such desires no matter where they come from, be it local or state government, federal bureaucrats or President Obama himself.

"I have no plans to continue a government-run insurance program that will cost $50 million to serve 9,000 Oklahomans. I simply do not believe it's the government's job," Shannon said.

These damned Republicans need to take a hike!

The alternative to government run health care is NO HEALTH CARE. Suffer and die. Too bad if it bankrupts your family, if you lose your house...

None of them can offer any solutions. Of course, THEY have their government health care so why should they be concerned about anyone else? It's not like it's their job or anything.

F*CKERS. Every last one of them.

Ok, just to let you know then since its clearly not your fault, the "Suffer and die. Too bad if it bankrupts your family, if you lose your house..." is the Republican healthcare plan for america.

budget alone to provide health care for all, reduce the deficit, and still be the biggest kid on the block militarily! The problem is that the military needs all of those expensive, fancy golf courses, bloated number of Generals with their huge staff and outrageous perks! It needs to pay all of these private contractors huge sums so they can afford to wine, dine, and treat the top brass and politicians who got them he contracts! When will they go "too far!" By the time we get off of our asses it will be too late!
