Obama opposes GOP bill on Keystone XL oil pipeline
Source: Omaha World Herald-AP
WASHINGTON (AP) The White House says President Barack Obama opposes a House bill that would speed approval of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to Texas.
The White House said Tuesday that the bill "seeks to circumvent longstanding and proven processes" by removing a requirement for a presidential permit. The legislation also says no new environmental studies are needed.
House Republicans say the bill is needed to ensure the long-delayed pipeline is built. The project, which first was proposed in 2008, would carry oil extracted from tar sands in western Canada to refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast.

(53,661 posts)As a nation, we need to reject the Koch brothers method of governance such as Synder's emergency managers in MI and Walker's selling off WI, and not buy their propaganda which is designed to keep Democrats away from the polls in 2014. Under every scandal and loose charge is a Kochroach.

(1,135 posts)I hope he doesn't, but I doubt that he will. I'm very cynical about most politicians, but with PBO, I still have hope that he is different.

(36,392 posts)When he refused to let the Single Payer advocates into the Health Insurance (not Health care) debates I was surprised, since he'd campaigned on a Public Option. When he refused to join the fray in the WI union-busting episode, less so. When he signed off on more guns in National Parks, my eyes became wide open. When he extended the Bush/Obama tax cuts for billionaires, I was angry. When he offered SS and Medicare cuts, I began to laugh at those who had said he never would. Now i sleep soundly knowing that (1) he works for the Republicans, and (b) I won't have to vote for him again, like I did in 08 and 12.
if he were going to veto the KXL, he would say so. He's not.
