Gohmert IRS speech veers into rant about owls mating ‘like crazy’ on Kmart signs
Source: Raw Story
During a Thursday House floor speech about the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) practice of scrutinizing conservative groups, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) connected the so-called scandal to the idea that owls could mate on Kmart signs.
As he was going through a list of tea party groups that were targeted by the IRS, Gohmert noted that some left-wing drone organization like Raw Story had published his assertion last week that the agency would have shot the Boston Tea Party participants.
I was tickled last week, some left-wing drone organization drone basically being unnamed, theyre not using the brains, theyre just doing as theyre directed came after me for for saying here on the floor, gee, the IRS might have shot the original Tea Party participants.
Well, obviously thats hyperbole, but Ive found in Washington, if you use sarcasm, you speak metaphorically, allegorically, use hyperbole, that its often lost here, he lamented.

(99 posts)Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) often offers creative explanations for his positions for example, he opposes protecting LGBT people from employment discrimination because such protections are part of a war on religion. During a conference call interview today with noted homophobe Rick Scarborough about his new organization, Tea Party Unity, Gohmert explained that he opposes gun control legislation because it has the same kind of slippery slope as same-sex marriage:
And I pointed out, well, once you make it ten, then why would you draw the line at ten? Whats wrong with nine? Or eleven? And the problem is once you draw that limit ; its kind of like marriage when you say its not a man and a woman any more, then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not somebody has a love for an animal?
There is no clear place to draw the line once you eliminate the traditional marriage and its the same once you start putting limits on what guns can be used, then its just really easy to have laws that make them all illegal.

(62,497 posts)gohmert reminds me of a guy I once knew in college. No matter what a teacher would say (with supported facts), this guy would question everything in the most bizarre and crazy way.
Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and asked the guy to pay my tuition.
He gave me a blank look.
I said, since you come into this classroom every day and dominate the conversations with your crazy observations and comments, I'm not learning a damn thing, so I want a refund of my tuition from you.
At this point a couple of other people spoke up.
of course, now he thinks I'm the crazy one.
I apologized to the prof for interrupting.
The prof, said, "this is a open class, you have as much right to state your opinion as he does" then winked at me.
I turned back to the student and asked, "Well, are you going to pay me?"
He turned beet red, grabbed his stuff and walked out of the class.
We never saw him again.
The moral to the story is this, if you publicly confront these people with their brand of instantly turned on it's head and directed right back at them, they usually, not always, shut up.
