Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) is tied with Mitch McConnell (R) in a hypothetical 2014 Senate matchup, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling.
-snip-
PPP found several signs of trouble for McConnell, who is strongly focused on reelection and has a large war chest:
McConnell's early positive advertising has done nothing to improve his prosp ects for reelection and in fact this is the actually the weakest pos ition PPP has found him in yet. In April we found him leading Grimes by 4 points and in December he had a 7 point advantage over her.
McConnell continues to be unpopular with 44% of voters approving of him to 47% who disapprove. His numbers are even worse with independents, only 41% of whom think hes doing a good job while 53% give him poor marks. Grimes, on the other hand, has a positive 34/24 favorability rating.

UPDATE:
EMILYs List Encourages Grimes To Challenge McConnell For Senate
EMILY's List, the well-funded group that supports pro-choice Democratic women for national office, is encouraging Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) to challenge Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) for Senate after a poll released Tuesday found the two tied at 45 percent each in a hypothetical 2014 matchup.
"Mitch McConnell is one of the least popular Senators in the country and it is clear that Kentuckians are looking for real change. Allison Grimes is an impressive candidate who would bring a refreshing perspective to end the Mitch McConnell era of gridlock and partisan politics in Washington," EMILY's List spokeswoman Marcy Stech told TPM. "We are excited about her potential run and an opportunity to send McConnell packing."
Grimes hasn't announced her intentions yet.
The survey was conducted for an anti-McConnell group by the Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling.

(51,551 posts)Of course not, it just reminded everyone that the chinless blithering asshole is in fact THEIR senator. And that should piss anyone off.

(13,616 posts)throw her under the same Bus he used to run over Ashley Judd?

(60,536 posts)Grimes is the person she was thrown under the bus for

(16,916 posts)Oh wait, that was a rhetorical question?
Ahhh, I see. What you really intended to do was take a very positive post and rain on it by adding some unwarranted and unwanted in-party divisiveness.
My bad for taking your "question" seriously.

(13,616 posts)Watch when Mitch beats her and Clinton makes her a scapegoat, all to hide the fact that he has a knack for picking Blue Dog Losers that no one can swallow anymore, no matter much sauce he pours on them.

(51,551 posts)He thought Grimes would make a better candidate than Judd. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/19/ashley-judd_n_2910249.html Judging by the polling trend, I think he's right.

(13,616 posts)And the Blue Dogs have such a record of winning, right?
SunSeeker
(51,551 posts)First you say that Clinton will throw Grimes under the bus. Now you suggest she is a blue dog who will lose. Why are you trashing a Dem who is polling even with McTurtle before she even enters the race?

(20,450 posts)You should learn to accept it, too. Until things change, which will take some time, you have to accept it.
Give me Grimes over McChinless any day.

(11,464 posts)It will take a lot of money, and a great campaign, but Mitch can be beaten, his ratings are way down (unlike CC in NJ),
and if enough voters come up, he can be beaten.
(and to add based on other responses to this, it is 100% irrelevant what happened to other candidates as the important thing is
for ALL democratic supporters to fully vote straight democratic line in 2013,2014,2015,2016, and beyond.
Anyhting other is just a vote for the other side IMHO)

(1,754 posts)I wish she would make a decision one way or another. This article mentions that Tom Fitzgerald is considering a run if she decides not to. I would be 100% behind him, he is an honorable man and stalwart environmentalist - but I think Grimes has a better chance of winning.

(22,000 posts)two things must be pointed out: 1) McConnell has not started spending money yet, once she announces the McConnell will pounce like a rabid dog; 2) McConnell has a well run smear machine behind him which no doubt includes independent expenditure groups that would be hard to tie back to him.

(22,000 posts)We got a bit of good news given Bachmann isn't running for her House seat. That maybe a pickup we need. And of course if she is out of the public view maybe she'll stop flapping her mouth about conspiracy theories.
