Michele Bachmann not running for re-election to House
May 29, 2013
WASHINGTON Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann says she will not run for another term in the U.S. House.
The tea party favorite, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination last year, announced her decision on her website Wednesday morning.
Bachmann says her decision not to run again in 2014 was "not influenced by any concerns about ... being re-elected."
She also says recent inquiries into her 2012 presidential campaign did not affect her decision.
Bachmann promises to "continue to work overtime for the next 18 months in Congress defending ... Constitutional Conservative values."

(20,176 posts)Demographic shifts suggest in a no-incumbent race, it slightly favors Democrats at this point. We have to nominate someone solid for the seat but it's within grasp. For that matter, we might have a harder time of it but I suspect Paul Ryan is also vulnerable.
SomeGuyInEagan
(1,515 posts)It carefully horseshoes around the Twin Cities metro, includes some very conservative strongholds and runs West-to-East for quite a ways to the Wisconsin border.
The redistricting resulting from the 2010 census moved eastern suburb of Woodbury (red but not as red as other parts of the 6th) out of the 6th. This included Bachmann's home (yes - she no longer lives in the district she represents - which is legal in Minnesota).
She has already been running ads a full 18 months before the 2014 election and some surveys showed her behind prospective DFL challenger Jim Graves (who lost by a few hundred votes to Bachmann in 2012).
As severely red as the MN 6th is, she has only once won with more than 50% of the vote (52% in 2010, when the anti-Obama backlash hit everywhere). Otherwise, it has been 50% in '06, 46.41% in '08 and 50.47% last year.
As crazy as Bachmann is, she really has not done much. John Kline in the MN 2nd is far worse and more dangerous, IMO.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)that he will be running again. He now whas a good chance of winning. However, the 6th is still solidly republican, so it really depends on who the republicans choose to run for the seat.
SomeGuyInEagan
(1,515 posts)The MN 6th is solidly red. In '12, Romney had 50k+ more votes than Obama and Bachmann still squeaked it out. This might open the door to a less-wacky Republican to run, which may have appeal after eight years of Bachmann.
Even conservative friends of mine from the 6th said they could not vote for her (though they may have).
It would be nice to see the 6th go DFL in '14. Along with the 2nd (John Kline has to go).
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)is probably safe, as is Paulsen.
I am also sure that a bunch of Democrats will run for the open seat so Graves being the nominee is not a shoe-in.
I also heard some talk of Collin Peterson retiring and the 7th leans republican.

I think it's because of the ongoing investigation into her campaign finances; perhaps she knew the FBI and the FEC had the goods on her, so she decided to step down, figuring that would take some of the heat off.

Over and over, like a mantra to the elder gods of lunacy.
This is a person the absolute faith in her stupidity. An overwhelming eagerness for legislation to enforce her stupidity. She also seems to be quite comfortable with the idea of her being the new Messiah of Moronic Discourse.
I see her as someone not very smart, impassioned with unbreakable programming, willing to usurp the rule of law to gain power and force others into her program, frustrated by circumstances, and not done yet. I only hope she chooses to interact with the public with a microphone and not a belt made from C-4 and nails.

(2,730 posts)her. She probably broke laws somewhere. If it was me, I would investigate the whole rightwing machine. Instead of punking Holder, I think he should be emboldened more to investigate the rightwingers and their accomplices. I think the IRS and Benghazi investigations can be turned on its head after listening to Lawrence O'Donnell last night. Issa would be one of my main targets for an investigation and the IG because I question this IG report. I think he needs to appear before a Senate Hearing and answer questions about his report and did anybody influence the outcome of it. I want to know exactly Issa's role.

(81,192 posts)She barely got back in, last time. In a purportedly ferociously-red district that should have been another cakewalk for her. And she barely got back in. The numbers were starting to go against her, and she's probably increasingly viewed back home as damaged goods - that will hurt their precious party. I think the last numbers I saw, if memory serves, that she was actually falling slightly behind the probable Democratic opponent. And then add in this scandal that was brewing under her feet.
She probably decided it'd be better to get outta Dodge and find her way to some lucrative contract with Pox Noise. Or maybe jim demint called with an offer of safe haven at the Heritage Foundation?

Two Weeks After Calling for Obama Impeachment, Michele Bachmann Quits Due to Ethics Scandal
It might be clearly understood by Bachmann, but not by the FBI, the Congressional Ethics Office, the special prosecutor in Iowa, the FEC, and all the other agencies that are investigating her 2012 presidential campaign. Two weeks ago, it was reported that the FBI had joined the investigation into Michele Bachmanns presidential campaign, but the media wants to pretend like this never happened. In fact, most mainstream media outlets are quoting Bachmans denial and taking it at face value
