Poll: McAuliffe Leads Cuccinelli By 5 In Va. Governor’s Race
Source: TPM
Although both candidates are unpopular among Virginia voters, former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe holds a 5-point edge over Republican state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in the Commonwealth's 2013 gubernatorial race, according to the latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling released Wednesday.
The poll showed McAuliffe picking up the support of 42 percent of Virginia voters, while Cuccinelli trailed with 37 percent support. Those findings are virtually identical to a poll earlier this month from Quinnipiac University, which also showed McAuliffe leading by five. Both PPP and Quinnipiac surveyed a sample of registered voters.
Polls conducted in late-April and early-May by the Washington Post and NBC News/Marist used samples of likely voters, showing Cuccinelli leading by 10 points and three points respectively.
PPP's latest release painted a picture of a race that may ultimately be won by the candidate who voters dislike less. Thirty-three percent said they have an unfavorable opinion of McAuliffe, the longtime Clinton loyalist, while 29 percent have a favorable opinion of him. But Democrats may take solace in the knowledge that Cuccinelli, a vocal social conservative, is even more unpopular: 44 percent have an unfavorable view of him compared with 32 percent who said they have a favorable view.

(71,265 posts)I suspect people are starting to notice just how off the charts Cucinelli really is. The Lt. Governor nominee says a whole lot of crap that Cucinnelli agrees with. Glad VA is starting to notice.

(21,103 posts)"Republicans are continuing on their mission to turn off every single Republican woman voter, and in Virginia, theyre going at it warp speed, courtesy of the Virginia GOP gubernatorial ticket of Cuccinelli and Jackson.
"Former President of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women Jan Schar and former Republican and Independent Delegate Katherine Waddell are reportedly none too impressed by the Virginia GOP gubernatorial ticket of Ken Cuccinelli and EW Jackson. Speaking to Lowkell at Blue Virginia Wednesday morning, Waddell called the worst ticket ever, adding that she was completely embarrassed and mortified by the Republican ticket of Cuccinelli and Jackson.
Jan Schar told Blue Virginia that although shes been a Republican for years, I simply cannot support them, as they would end a womans right to make her own health care choices, including access to birth control.
Schar was disturbed by the Republican tickets attack on Planned Parenthood, which does so much good for women in Virginia . to call them a racist group is simply beyond the pale and hopefully will frighten Virginians from voting for them. This team of three would take us back to their ideology. Schar concluded, I know so many Republicans who just cant support [this ticket].
Waddell (I/R) called Cuccinelli extreme, according to Blue Virigina, due in part to his dangerous anti-woman health agenda. Reacting to the tickets charges against Planned Parenthood, she pointed out that it made absolutely no sense to accuse Planned Parenthood of being a racist organization; its an organization which brings much needed health care to many.
I'd be running and screaming away also!
