NEW YORK (AP) - Even as fast-food chains tout their healthy offerings, they're also coming up with fatty new treats to keep customers interested. Case in point: Dunkin' Donuts is adding a doughnut breakfast sandwich to its national menu this week.
The sandwich, which comes with fried eggs and bacon between a split glazed doughnut, will become a part of the permanent menu starting Friday, which the chain claims is "National Donut Day." Dunkin' Donuts had tested the sandwich in select stores in eastern Massachusetts in April, creating considerable buzz online.
Notably, Dunkin' Donuts says the "Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich" clocks in at 360 calories, which is less than the 390 calories for the turkey sausage sandwich it recently introduced for people looking to eat better.
Dunkin' Donuts, based in Canton, Mass., is a unit of Dunkin' Brands Group Inc., which also owns Baskin-Robbins.2

(37,182 posts)The bacon and eggs are fine. It's the donut and hash browns that are the problem.

(114,595 posts)and gag me. I can think of sweet things that might do well in a donut sandwich and I can think of savory things that might go well with an unglazed, plain donut, but putting greasy eggs and bacon inside a glazed donut? No thanks.

(14,597 posts)that has many more calories than what's listed for this one...and gets little negative mention as a breakfast option. A simple bagel and cream cheese, for those that are open to facts, has loads of calories (because they are so dense). Of COURSE this new sandwich is not health food, but if you work manual labor outdoors, the calories from one of these wouldn't even last you till lunch...

(3,605 posts)This is definitely not something you'd want to eat often, but as an occasional treat, why not? Salty and sweet--yummy!
You *could* make something better at home, though--say, cream-cheese and honey/nut stuffed French toast. With bacon.

Oh, and the McGriddle was a huge success for McDonald's. I understand why Dunkin Donuts would do this from a increase profits stand point.

(22,271 posts)I kept hearing how WONDERFUL Dunkin' Donuts coffee was so I bought some while it was on sale. It's still sitting in my refrigerator for the I-need-a-cup-of-coffee-before-I-can-go-out-and-buy-REAL-coffee coffee. Gack! Still hooked on San Francisco Bay brand coffee. Best coffee I've ever tasted.

Why hasn't anyone taken Lew Rothman's BBB sandwich national...Bacon, Bacon and more Bacon. And so easy to prepare: fry up a pound of bacon and stick it between two slices of bread.
