(8,492 posts)She's only 14.
When will dysfunctional families/parents/grandparents realize that children are not oblivious to the crap that goes on around them? After Michael's death, his kids became pawns in a fucking disgusting game of greed, ego and selfishness. I'm not saying this is 100% the cause of her suicide attempt, but I'd be willing to put money on 80%.
Pretty young lady. I hope she can find something beautiful soon.

(30,253 posts)I hope that she'll be alright. That family is as screwed up as they come, starting with their abusive father (I mean Michael's father).

(23,160 posts)One of the awful things about suicides are that often the children later try to commit suicide themselves. This happened in one of our good friend's families. Our friend's sister killed herself, then the teenaged daughter attempted the same thing and our friend took her in, put her in therapy, did everything she could for her, paid for college, etc. Many years and many attempts later, Laura, sadly, succeeded in terminating her life. Berniece (our dear friend) was never the same.

May she know happiness - it will get better once you're away from that family, kid. Just wait a few years and see.

(7,403 posts)Is no REAL help.
We are still on the frontier when it comes to understanding and treating mental health issues. Too many think it is an acquired condition and that the person can thus un-acquire the condition. It doesn't work that way and until that is accepted as fact then progress will be slow. If you can't walk in the shoes of the mentally ill then finding a cure is pretty hopeless. The oppositional defiance makes that a certainty. It is past time that we recognize that current treatment strategies are not working and a new, completely different approach is worked out and implemented. Frankly, I think the prospects are dim. And, yes, I deal with this on a daily basis with my daughter. She has been in treatment for 9 years now and we are basically still at square 1 at best.

(15,224 posts)I was hoping that she had it together! Unfortunately, the stress must be unbearable.
I hope she can recover and get the REAL help that she needs. And I hope this gets the two sons the help that they most assuredly need, as well.

(3,335 posts)Paris has been acting as if she were an adult for a while now. Not that I would wish her any ill will, but she was out of control and someone should have recognized this long ago. Unfortunately with fame come messy lives. I don't for a second blame this on Michael Jackson's father as someone else here said. Michael Jackson's upbringing was not unlike many other people in the black community. What makes his situation different is the introduction of MONEY and FAME which which is a double edged sword which has claimed the lives of many who were unable to handle it.

(58,237 posts)She's a 15-year-old _child_. I think it's pitiful that her alleged personal medical situation is now in Google news. Her dad was a public figure, but she's a child and not a public figure in her own right. And I'm sorry that I'm even replying and discussing the alleged personal medical situation of a child I don't know.
This isn't a criticism of you personally. Please know that.

(135,060 posts)The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Fire Department responded to an emergency call at the Jackson family compound in Calabasas early Wednesday morning, according to sources.
Officials would say only that they responded to a "medical emergency" on the block where the Jackson family lives. The L.A. County Fire Department described the call as a "possible overdose" and said a patient was taken to a hospital.
One source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the patient was Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris.
Jackson's former wife, Debbie Rowe, also told Entertainment Tonight that Paris Jackson was the patient.
