Illinois GOP official resigns after calling former Miss America 'street walker'

Source: Chicago Tribune

A Downstate Illinois GOP county chairman resigned today after likening former Miss America Erika Harold, who’s challenging a sitting Republican congressman in next year’s primary election, to a “street walker” whose “pimps” were Democrats and moderate Republicans.

Jim Allen of Farmersville, the chairman of the Montgomery County GOP, sent the resignation letter today to new Illinois Republican Chairman Jack Dorgan. Dorgan called Allen’s remarks “offensive and inappropriate.”

Allen, who supports freshman Republican U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Taylorville, made his remarks in an e-mail to a supporter of Harold. She is the 2003 Miss America from Urbana and a former Chicago attorney.

In the e-mail, which was later posted online, Allen referred to Harold as a “little queen” and the “love child” of the Democratic National Committee. Allen also wrote that after losing the 2014 March primary Harold would end up back in Chicago --- though he used a derogatory spelling --- “working for some law firm that needs to meet their quota for minority hires.” Harold is African American.

My apologies for the last photo of Laura Bush, however I spent a lot of time trying to find usable photo's of her on Google Images. They were all encrypted and would not allow me to copy and paste to this post. After my frustration I finally picked this one because it was one of the few that I could copy. So if the NSA is watching, tell the social media to un encrypt all the photo's of Laura Bush so we can post more favorable photo's of her, otherwise this is what is going to happen.

Seriously. Harold is a beauty queen with political hopes. She does have an excellent educational background, and is very personable, but she's a lightweight politically.

The current congressman was chosen by the Repub party chairs in this congressional district to run in the general election AFTER the incumbent Repub congressman Tim Johnson stepped aside post primary. Davis did go on to beat Dr. David Gill (a wonderful progressive and friend!) in the general election after the really big money guys stepped in and poured a whole lot of money into the campaign. Davis was not the choice of the outgoing congressman, and has not maintained his staffers. Davis has not enjoyed much support at all from Johnson and his old guard GOP cronies.

Locally, the word is going around that Harold was recruited by some of the old guard GOP with the thought in mind that she'd make a run for a state senate seat that is currently held by a Dem. She moved back down here from Chicago (she grew up in this area) and took a job with one of the old guard Repub law firms. She did throw her hat in the ring on that congressional race but got passed over for Davis, in part, because she was still living in Chicago, and in part because Davis had locked up promises from the more rural county chairs. This time, the thought was that they'd bring her in at a state level rather than federal. They see potential in her and they wanted to get her going.

Now comes the really interesting gossip! A couple of Johnson's old staffers are on board with Harold. Have no way to know for sure, but I heard those two had recruited Harold to run in that congressional primary with the promise of all kinds of cash support for the campaign. If that's true (and it very well could be!) the speculation is that Johnson has a hand in it and in the promised campaign money.

I'm rather enjoying the whole dog and pony show--watching the local GOP forming up sides. She could well pull this off, as long as the GOP stays a house divided.

and paid for by the GOP? This is probably about her more than about what she cares about issues or people. Essentially, the man was telling the truth, only she wasn't recruited by Democrats. She would be using her race at the expense of issues, that matter to African Americans. As an African American, I don't care for other African Americans like that. They are no better than Clarence Thomas or Allen West. Condeleeza Rice really offends me too. Of course, I don't know the woman but that is what they usually do, from the ones I've met. Blacks are rare in the GOP.

She's been on record for a long time as being REALLY socially conservative, and some of this, I think, is being driven by the local fundy-fun-kids. I have zero doubts that her ethnicity probably does put a puff in the panties of some of these guys, but I think her social views coupled with name recognition and a certain stage presence are a big factor as well.

Make no mistake, the downstate Illinois GOP is populated with some pretty ugly attitudes, and making the choice between a multi-ethnic woman and a tea-bagger is gonna furrow some brows before it is all over.
