Target cuts ties with Deen; drugmaker distances

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — Paula Deen’s merchandise and media empire is fast unraveling.

Retailers Target Corp. and Home Depot Inc. and diabetes drug maker Novo Nordisk became the latest companies to sever ties or distance themselves from celebrity cook Paula Deen as fallout builds from revelations that the Southern celebrity chef used racial slurs in the past.

Target, based in Minneapolis, said Thursday that it will phase out its Paula Deen-branded cookware and other items, which were sold on its website and in its stores.

“Once the merchandise is sold out, we will not be replenishing inventory,” said Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman.

"smiffild" products shamelessly (advertised as a cooking segment, but just an ad, ultimately). The hayem pushing the hayem, so to speak.

As a fellow North Carolinian, who knows how big Smithfield is around here, to me Smithfield dropping her was like: stick a fork in this whole thing, Deen's done (dining-implement pun not intended)

Teabaggers are completely screwed given the number of businesses they now have to "boycott".

The fallout is from her utter inability to address the wrong in what she has done, and the wrong she continued to do in recent years.

She could have left that behind, led off with a big apology but in a way that befits her many years of experience and learning, maybe started a little education fund. Maybe even not treated her staff poorly, reportedly.

But, no. She had to talk herself into being as toxic as tar sands.

She blames this on someone who wants to destroy her, takes no responsibility. Doesn't know African Americans are offended by the term? Seriously? Her extra interviews are convincing businesses that weren't convinced before.
