Sarah Palin Open to Creating New 'Freedom Party' if GOP Continues to 'Neglect Conservatives'
Source: The NY Daily News
The 2008 Republican nominee for vice president said that many conservatives with "that libertarian streak" feel ignored by the GOP. If this presumed neglect continues, Palin said, creating a new home for conservatives might not be such a bad idea.
Palin expects more and more people who want government off their backs to ask, "You know, what's wrong with being independent?"
"I think there will be a lot of us who start saying, 'GOP, if you abandon us, we have nowhere else to go except to become more independent and not enlisted in a one or the other private majority parties that rule in our nation, either a Democrat or a Republican."
"I love the name of that party the 'Freedom Party,'" Palin replied. "And if the GOP continues to back away from the planks in our platform, from the principles that built this party of Lincoln and Reagan, then yeah."

Sounds like contributions to SarahPAC are drying up.
She'd be happy to start a new party and control the finances. I'm sure the founder of a party gets a salary commensurate to the best paid CEO without having to actually do anything like run for office.
Maybe she'll become the GOP's Ralph Nader for siphoning off a portion of the base and we can finally be done with her. We can hope.

Fortunately, Palin is too egocentric to admit that's what will happen.

(1,415 posts)and having remembered just how much most Republicans hated Sen. McCain for all the pork cutting and McCain-Feingold, I almost considered voting for the gentleman from Arizona (still leaning for Sen. Obama, but I did slightly waiver).
Then, getting breakfast at a cafe in a car dealership on a Saturday morning, I looked up at the TV and saw some librarian-looking woman getting off a plane, with "McCain picks woman running mate" scrolling along. Thinking how he only picked a woman to look "diverse" against a black man, I immediately wrote of Sen. McCain.
Then I learned about Sarah, and that sealed me forever against the G.O.P. How a major party could put that nitwit up to be a coronary away from a particular Gunlocke chair in Washington is beyond me.

(7,392 posts)More likely it is because Palin just doesn't have that much in common with a true Libertarian.
What Palin is really describing would require this party to not be the Freedom Party, but the God's Law Party. That is not exactly Libertarian nor freedom.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,154 posts)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_Party_%28United_States%29
Their party platform preamble starts:
This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been and are afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.
The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its Constitutional boundaries.
The Constitution of these United States provides that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." The Constitution Party supports the original intent of this language. Therefore, the Constitution Party calls on all those who love liberty and value their inherent rights to join with us in the pursuit of these goals and in the restoration of these founding principles.
The U.S. Constitution established a Republic rooted in Biblical law, administered by representatives who are Constitutionally elected by the citizens. In such a Republic all Life, Liberty and Property are protected because law rules.
So they wants lots of Bible, everywhere.
DallasNE
(7,392 posts)Called the Constitution Party, with roots back to George Wallace. That does sound about right for Sarah Palin. And their knowledge of history is just as skimpy as is Sarah Palin's. Plus, they talk as though there is no conflict whatsoever between Constitutional boundaries and Biblical boundaries, not withstanding the 1st Amendment.
The Constitution did not establish a Republic rooting in Biblical Law. It did establish a Republic but secular in nature. Many of our Founding Fathers were Deists, while Christian, who believed God created the world then stood back and watched so no wonder they created a secular nation.

(45,984 posts)She is a right wing moron.
A conservative is one who believe in some sort of hierarchy is necessary for the functioning of an orderly society; however, a conservative also recognizes that this social hierarchy is a man-made construct and that this construct may become dysfunctional over a period of time.
Please note that this writer is not a conservative, but a democrat. I do not believe that a social hierarchy is necessary for the good health of society. On the contrary, a rigid social hierarchy is, in fact, unhealthy.
A tenant of right wing ideology is, contrary to conservative doctrine, that social hierarchy is sanctioned by a super-human force and should never be questioned. This force may be divine or natural, but usually framed in a way to make it irrational. Claims that this race is better than that one, men are simply better than women, that heterosexuals are better homosexuals or that there is only one true religion and all others are false are never supported by any scientific facts or sound logic. Consequently, an irrational social hierarchy must be defended with violence and oppression as members of the underclass will rebel against the system and even more intelligent members of the privileged class are likely to question anything irrational. The Aryan ideal of Nazi Germany was based on irrational "theories" that were based on faulty science at best and at worse were nothing more than racist assertions made up out of thin air. Less murderous racist states, such as the Apartheid regime in South Africa, are still based on a social order that the official social mythology holds cannot be challenged when in fact challenging it is as easy as saying "I don't think so."
When pressed, a right winger may come up with something that is pseudo-logical argument, often loaded with panglossian reasoning. For example, please click here and check out this guy's nonsense.

(10,857 posts)To the lover of history, "freedom" has a very different meaning than the one projected by the people who use it.
For example, the Spartans were a military oligarchy that enslaved eighty percent of the people who lived within their territory. They were always on the opposite side of whatever the democracy of Athens was doing, and eventually teamed up with their historical enemies, the Persians, to defeat Athens. The Persians, of course, were the same Persians who killed King Leonidas and his Spartiate holplitai guard at Thermopylae pass, but Spartan leadership did not care about that so long as victory--for the vanishingly small leadership class of Sparta--was assured.
And what was the Spartan slogan for all of those years? "Freedom for the Greeks," of course.
American "freedom," in Republican parlance, is exactly as real as the "freedom" for which the Spartans fought, which is to say that it is not real at all except as a tool for separating more Americans from their lives and their property.
So yeah, Sarah Palin, you're really on to something there.
