Asiana pilot names: NTSB intern 'no longer with agency,' report says

Source: LA Times

The National Transportation Safety Board intern who apparently confirmed the fake, racially insensitive names of the pilots flying the ill-fated Asiana Airlines Flight 214 is "no longer with the agency," CNN reported Monday.

CNN cited "a government official with knowledge of the situation" in its report.

In an email to the Los Angeles Times, NTSB spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said the agency does not "discuss or disclose information relating to personnel matters" but "has taken appropriate action to deal with the situation."

"In addition," Nantel wrote, "we are reviewing our policies and procedures to determine where we might be able to strengthen them so that this kind of situation doesn't happen again."

He probably got the call, laughed, and said "Yeah, sure," and hung up. I mean, who on earth could possibly have thought this was a legitimate call from a TV news station? It's like getting a all about Prince Albert in a can.

Folks at the station need to be fired as well. You run a story without verifying the credentials of the individual? Even my High School daughter knows not to do that.

That should have been caught in the newsroom. I mean, come on--"Somthing Wrong?" "We Too Low?" and "Holy Fuck?"

I'd say that Sum Dum Muran had to be editing and fact-checking if they let that get by...

the fact that the actual names of at least two of the pilots had been in the press for at least a week, even here on the east coast. AND were notable in that two of them had the same surname, a common Korean surname at that. *I* could have told just by looking at the fake names, that they were wrong (aside from the attempted "joke" of the fake names), and I'm not even a newsreader who had been reading this news for days. Moran Sum Dum is right!

Yet another example of blaming the lowest man on the totem pole (see, Philadelphia building collapse).

at the 6:45 mark you can tell how dumb the station staff was by the host raising his voice.
