Feds still investigating agent's fatal shooting of Ibragim Todashev during questioning in Florida
The FBI has barred the Orlando medical examiner from releasing the autopsy report on a friend of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects who was shot dead by an agent during questioning in May.
Although the autopsy on Ibragim Todashev was completed July 8 and "ready for release," the FBI "has informed this office that the case is still under active investigation and thus not to release the document," Tony Miranda, forensic records coordinator for Orange and Osceola counties, wrote in a statement Tuesday. The statement cites a Florida statute that bars the release of autopsy reports during criminal investigations.
The ME's office said it would contact the FBI every month for authority to release the report.
An FBI agent killed 27-year-old Todashev in his Orlando apartment during questioning related to the bombings and an unsolved triple murder in Waltham, Mass., two years ago. The agency and the Justice Department are conducting an internal investigation.

that autopsies take note of external injuries to determine the events that lead to death.
Some well trained enforcement people even know to "bag" the hands to look for evidence of a struggle between the perpetrator and the victim to collect evidence, even possible DNA of the attacker.
Back on topic, I'm also pretty sure that an organization,
be it Government or otherwise conducting an internal investigation
is not likely to find fault with itself.

(10,274 posts)From 1993 to early 2011, F.B.I. agents fatally shot about 70 "subjects" and wounded about 80 others and every one of those episodes was deemed justified, according to interviews and internal F.B.I. records obtained by The New York Times through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. The last two years have followed the same pattern: an F.B.I. spokesman said that since 2011, there had been no findings of improper intentional shootings. ...
Out of 289 deliberate shootings covered by the documents, many of which left no one wounded, five were deemed to be "bad shoots," in agents' parlance encounters that did not comply with the bureau's policy, which allows deadly force if agents fear that their lives or those of fellow agents are in danger. A typical punishment involved adding letters of censure to agents' files. But in none of the five cases did a bullet hit anyone.

The shot in the back of the head indicates that they were shooting to finish him off, he said. My son was interrogated for eight hours by four or five FBI agents and I will never believe he could be in a position to attack any of them. In the very least between the four of them they could have subdued him physically instead of riddling him with bullets.

(7,650 posts)The FBI should shut down the city, dress up in their best military gear, and conduct warrantless house-to-house searches to find evidence of why they shot this man 7 times. The rousted citizens can emerge from their houses hands-up over their heads while shouting thanks to law enforcement for their diligence. This approach would certainly reflect the new security-before-rights sentiment.
