NEW YORK (AP) Former National League MVP Ryan Braun was suspended without pay for the rest of the season and the postseason Monday in the first penalty following Major League Baseballs investigation of the Florida clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs.
Braun accepted the penalty.
I am not perfect. I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions, he said in a statement.
MBL attempted to suspend Braun for a positive drug test following the 2011 season, but an arbitrator overturned the penalty because the Milwaukee stars urine sample was not handled as specified by baseballs drug agreement.
(further down.....)
MLB Commissioner Bud Selig announced the penalty Monday, citing Braun for multiple unspecified violations of baseballs drug program and labor contract. Braun will miss the Milwaukee Brewers final 65 games without pay, costing him about $3 million of his $8.5 million salary.

(72,790 posts)As should all known drug abusers.
And they should have to return the salary earned during the seasons they cheated.
A message needs to be sent to younger players that this kind of crap will not be tolerated, and if they use drugs to enhance their game, they will never play baseball again!
A-Rod is also on the list of those who are being investigated, so he may be next.

(19,964 posts)And until they face a lifetime ban, the lying and abuse will continue. As it is, these guys will just come back next year and find some team that will pay them outrageously big bucks to play again.
I also think his MVP title should be forfeit.

(9,901 posts)YES, I said the 2nd time he got caught.
The 1st time he got caught, a technicality is HOW the specimen was handled released him from paying anything!
In reality, he should be kicked out of baseball for life!

(173 posts)baseball will never be clean till all are brought to justice...ALSO they must
implement the "Death Penalty"...get caught and you are removed/banned from the game.
i honestly believe than if 10 years ago ryan Braun's attorney told him "Ryan
you are about to sign a long term contract But if you do drugs the contract
will be null and void, and baseball will not be part of your life"
Would it be worth the risk?

(366 posts)at the University of Miami Hurricanes baseball team (2003 to 2005), a homerun's distance away from Anthony Bosch's Biogenesis "anti-aging" clinic ? Or probably in his high school career too? It turned out that Marion "I never tested positive for PEDs" Jones started her doping in high school.
Why do you think such a PED (Performance Enhancing Drugs) clinic was located next to the University of Miami ?
A-Rod was born and raised in Miami.
Yasmani Grandal, the former star catcher for the University of Miami Hurricanes, was also linked to Biogenesis, and banned for 50 games after a great rookie season for the San Diego Padres.
At least one UM coach makes an appearance as well: Jimmy Goins, the strength and conditioning coach for the Hurricanes baseball team for the past nine seasons. Goins is recorded in multiple client lists; in one detailed page dated December 14, 2011, Bosch writes he's selling him Anavar, testosterone, and a Winstrol/B-12 mix and charging him $400 a month. Another, from this past December, includes sales of HGH and testosterone.

I honestly believe that if guys like Ryan Braun did NOT do PEDs in their high school and college careers,
they would never HAVE attorneys and big multi-year contracts in MLB.
A-Rod, if he were "clean" in high school, would probably be running some landscaping business in Miami now...
Now that MLB, starting in 2013, can do blood tests of athletes during the season, old, injured guys like A-Rod and Jeter just can't seem to "recover" from their injuries. Probably just a coincidence that this is the first year of a new MLB drug testing era.

(38,414 posts)long list...this says a whole lot. (accused is not proven, and there are denials, judge for yourself..)
