Judge Hunter may have committed crime says Prosecutor.
Source: Cincinnati Enquirer
Juvenile Court Judge Tracie Hunter, or someone working for her, backdated documents in criminal cases in an attempt to impair justice, Hamilton County prosecutors alleged Friday.
If this was done to intentionally thwart our ability to pursue an appeal, a crime may have been committed, Prosecutor Joe Deters said.
Hunter did not respond Friday to calls to her office and cellphone.
In court documents and an internal memo, prosecutors say documents were purposely backdated by Hunter, or someone acting at her request. The backdating, prosecutors added, was done to deny prosecutors a chance to appeal the judges rulings.

Party affiliation aside, this could be the worst judge in county history. She kicked the media out, held a reporter in contempt for reporting things she didn't like, and has been held in contempt of court by the Court of Appeals for violating their orders.

(20,906 posts)ousted from her position as right now, but she needs to be permanently disbarred and prevented from ever working any job that has anything to do with the legal profession ever again (a lot of suspended, disgraced and/or disbarred attorneys will work in legal support positions to stay in the profession unless they're specifically barred from that as well, which happens with some orders of disbarment), and then criminally charged.
And what's with the "if this was done to intentionally thwart.......then a crime may have been committed" statements by the prosecutor? It doesn't matter WHY the backdating of documents was done, the very fact that it was DONE is criminal. Period. Or does the prosecutor only care about judicial malfeasance when it affects THEM? Knowing some prosecutors, I'd say that's the case.
As a former legal support staffer who's married to an attorney, this kind of shit REALLY pisses me off. Actually, it should piss people off no matter what, but you know what I mean.

(7,413 posts)Nothing would be more satisfying for the bulk of the legal community in Cincinnati than to see Ms. Hunter get her head handed to her. Now that Stan Chesley has "retired" (only weeks before being disbarred) and Panioto finally "aged out" in the Family Court division, Hunter has become the local icon among the legal community of what's wrong with legal profession.
My guess, with no inside knowledge, is that she goes down for this and she will, as she did with her election, ultimately tie up any final action on it through a long series of wasterful appeals. Eventually, she'll be gone but it's going to be like extracting an infected, inpacted wisdom tooth - a long a painful process.

(224 posts)Judge Hunter is, nominally, a democrat. However, the party didn't even endorse her when she ran. Shortly after she took office, Republicans started questioning her decisions, rightfully. The local D chair, Tim Burke immediately threw down the race card and accused people questioning the judge of being racist. Then, the judge really started losing it. She now appears in the paper monthly for bizarre shit. She has a multi year backlog of cases. The Public Defender and Prosecutor have banded together to try to force the judge to act on hundreds of cases where juveniles are languishing without decisions made in months or years. Both parties agree now that this judge has no business being on the bench and is a disgrace.

(224 posts)The truth is that she holds lunatic status. She believes that it is better to talk to teenage gun-toting gang members than to lock them up. She locked up a prosecutor for asking for a recess to confer with his supervisor. She was found guilty of contempt of court when the Court of Appeals ordered her to allow the media into her courtroom and then she banned the media again the next day. She sued her own lawyers, and then ordered the taxpayers to pay hundreds of thousands so she could hire different ones.
no one ever said we're perfect but this judge is unacceptable in MY party. Throw the bum out!

(224 posts)Frankly, politics should (in a perfect world) be kept out of the judiciary. The best judges in my county are a mix of the two. Out of my four favorite, (we have more than 30) two are democrats and two are republicans. This is because they are fair, above all else. They give all sides and even shake and follow the evidence.

(72,543 posts)this is southern Ohio after all - basically Texas without the "y'all". Shouldn't we wait until the investigation or trial before sentencing her? It isn't as if the Teapublican prosecutor doesn't have axes to grind and visions of a House seat in his future.
