Wendy Davis to announce gubernatorial decision Oct. 3
Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Theres one question Ive gotten quite often in the past few months, Davis wrote in an email to supporters. Whats next?
On Oct. 3, Ill be answering that question, she wrote. I truly appreciate all the work that you my grassroots team have done for me thus far. And Im excited about what we can do together in the future.
The question at hand is whether she will run for re-election in Senate District 10 or for governor.

According to my sources, she was asked to run for Senate and declined. Still not sure if she should run statewide at this point if the Party can't deliver the votes for her.

(8,322 posts)Because if she doesn't, Texas remains stuck deep down the toilet, and will send more reinforcements for Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert, Steve Stockman...

The lack of Democratic viability in Texas is precisely why Rick Perry thinks he can be elected president. If you want more like this, then keep discouraging Wendy Davis and her prospects. Here's the thing: for the past ten years I've been working on elections in Texas. In that time, nobody has presented a clearer shot to ending the stranglehold that the very worst the GOP has on Texas. And I mean NOBODY.
The GOP will continue exporting this brand of crazy all around the country until we stop it. Curse Texas all you wish but that's not helping. Discourage Democrats and their prospects if it makes you feel better. But once we break the back of the GOP here... they are over everywhere (except for a few rebel outposts in the South).
You can be part of the solution, part of the problem, or a spectator in the peanut gallery. Up to you.

(26,582 posts)I'm just worried that if she does run and loses then she's out of politics. I support Wendy 100% in whatever she decides. I'd love to see her as governor.

(8,322 posts)If she runs for her Senate seat and loses, she's done. If she runs for SD-10 (please note what the OP has as confidential info) and wins, she gets eclipsed by the Castros four years from now.
I don't necessarily agree that she's done if runs for governor and doesn't win. She builds the whole of the TDP simply by running.

(26,582 posts)I hope she wins. It would be so good for the state.

(55,334 posts)I don't think it works that way. For instance, did you know that one or the other of the brothers would have to run for a given office not both of them at the same time.
Personally, I'm excited about all these Generation Jones progressives hitting the news in Texas at the same time. I don't think they detract from each other. I very seriously doubt that we'll elect any state wide Dems in the next 10 years, but that doesn't mean running is just tilting at windmills. It will create a groundswell of local liberal office holders who will start to undo the damage caused by two generations of Republican malfeasance.

If Wendy Davis were not going to run for governor, she would not need to announce that.

Good to know that! Time for a change after a decade and a half of right wing rule whether GW Bush or Goodhair Perry!

Let's face it, Texas is turning bluer, and if we manage to keep New York, California, Texas, and keep Florida in the blue column the GOP will never see the White House!

(96,882 posts)Its turning blueER, but it's not blue yet. My sources say 4-5 more years before we're truly competitive there. Considering that there isn't an infinite amount of money of staff time available, which State would you like the Party NOT to focus on: PA, MI, WI, OH, FL, ME, AZ.......?
