Israeli forces manhandle EU diplomats, seize West Bank aid

Source: Reuters

Israeli soldiers manhandled European diplomats on Friday and seized a truck full of tents and emergency aid they had been trying to deliver to Palestinians whose homes were demolished this week.

................................

"They dragged me out of the truck and forced me to the ground with no regard for my diplomatic immunity," French diplomat Marion Castaing said.

"This is how international law is being respected here," she said, covered with dust.

.............................................

Israeli soldiers stopped the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delivering emergency aid on Tuesday and on Wednesday IRCS staff managed to put up some tents but the army forced them to take the shelters down.

for her daughter because the pain of that family goes long. Rachel was not the "usual Radical Suspect" and her parents had to deal with no one in their Southern Community understanding about Rachel or why their cause didn't get years of Attention by our Government or even the MSM.

Even when DU'ers post about Rachiel Corrie on DU...there's little response ...as if she NEVER EXISTED.

who had relocate to Charlotte who were trying to deal with investigations of her death and becoming involved, eventually, with that Rachel herself was in trying to stop Israel from Bulldozing Palistinian Settlements.

Rachel was born and raised in WaState...but, her parents had relocated and the "Charlotte News & Observer" tried to do a series of articles on Rachel and he Parents. But, it just didn't resonate with the NC Folks who just couldn't get over that she was a "Radical' and there was so much RW Pushback here in NC...that it seemed that Rachel was the TerroristNi and not the Bulldozer guy.

The "Charlotte Observer" really did, at that time try to be fair about Rachel and her families investigation...but, in Southern Terms...there wasn't the interest that lingered. That's what I was trying to say.

And to be fair...you pointed out that Rachel grew up in Washington State and graduated College there...but her parents had already relocated to North Carolina...so most of the interviews in MSM and elsewhere...came from Charlotte...and so Rachel and her parents life long history in Washington State before they relocated for husband's job in NC when Rachel became more and more active after her Graduation from College out there.

If one doesn't have a conscience about their Deeds ...then even if they aren't signed up for a RELIGIOUS PREFERENCE...why does that EXEMPT them from Commonality of Suffering for Humankind...that we would turn our BACKS on those Suffering from Poverty through no Fault of their own...and Punish them?

And it goes on and on about ignorance or lace of compassion for those who suffer that we need to share bread and sustenance with as a moral part of the Human Community...so that we ALL HAVE CHANCE TO SURVIVE!

How can we have gone so far down in this country that we no longer care about the SUFFERING because Bankers/Speculaters Brought down the Financial System?

WE BAIL THEM OUT... How can this be? I've asked over and over...and there's never an answer that addresses those who were so devastated and continue to be about what went on with the Housing Bubble that went on after "9/11" and culminated when Obama was Elected to clean it all up~

Sep 2013

Corrie was born on April 10, 1979, and raised in Olympia, Washington, United States. She was the youngest of three children of Craig Corrie, an insurance executive, and Cindy Corrie. Cindy describes their family as "average Americans—politically liberal, economically conservative, middle class".

After graduating from Capital High School, Corrie went on to attend The Evergreen State College, also in Olympia, where she took a number of arts courses. She took a year off from her studies to work as a volunteer in the Washington State Conservation Corps. She also spent three years making weekly visits to mental patients.

While at Evergreen State College she became a "committed peace activist" arranging peace events through a local group called 'Olympians for Peace and Solidarity'. She later joined the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) organisation in order to use non-violent methods for challenging the policies of the Israeli army in the West Bank and Gaza.[1] In her senior year, she proposed an independent-study program in which she would travel to Gaza, join protesters from the ISM, and initiate a "sister city" project between Olympia and Rafah. Before leaving, she also organized a pen-pal program between children in Olympia and Rafah.

The palestinians there threw stones and physically attacked the israeli security forces.

That french diplomat is in a lot of trouble, could lose her diplomatic status.

Btw, an idf soldier was kidnapped and murdered yesterday in the west bank, but I guess for reuters that wasn't as important as some diplomats hurt feelings.

edit: here is the french diplomat trying to assault an IDF soldier:

Locals said Khirbet Al-Makhul was home to about 120 people. The army demolished their ramshackle houses, stables and a kindergarten on Monday after Israel's high court ruled that they did not have proper building permits.

Despite losing their property, the inhabitants have refused to leave the land, where, they say, their families have lived for generations along with their flocks of sheep.

Israeli soldiers stopped the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delivering emergency aid on Tuesday and on Wednesday IRCS staff managed to put up some tents but the army forced them to take the shelters down.

Diplomats from France, Britain, Spain, Ireland, Australia and the European Union's political office, turned up on Friday with more supplies. As soon as they arrived, about a dozen Israeli army jeeps converged on them, and soldiers told them not to unload their truck.

------

So, Israeli "justice" kicks people off land they have lived on for generations, demolished their homes and schools, blocks the Red Cross from providing assistance, drives off with other trucks full of supplies, and manhandles some diplomats just for good measure. You can defend these assholes all you want; the world sees through you.

Compare the two articles, the article about the murder doesn't even mention the victims name or age (Sgt. Tomer Hazan, 20) and is barely 100 words long. The other article is 3-4 times longer and yet completely fails to report significant facts surrounding the incident.

This article is a really good example of the media's obsession with reporting basically anything that puts Israel in a bad light.

Looks like after maybe(The vehicle is to the left of the frame). They had no right to do that. If they had cause to put their hands on her, they should have followed up with an arrest.

Unless you have some more proof that she instigated the confrontation, you have no leg to stand on.

By the way, what are your thoughts on this story? I was really hoping to see how you would defend it when it made the rounds on DU.

IDF says it blocked EU-Palestinian effort to rebuild demolished homes

The IDF said it foiled an attempt Friday by Palestinians and EU diplomats to rebuild West Bank homes that were demolished earlier this week in accordance with a High Court of Justice ruling.

Dozens of Palestinians arrived at the site, which is near a training base for the IDF’s Kfir Brigade, accompanied by left-wing activists and several diplomats, and began construction on new structures.

The High Court had ruled that the homes in what Palestinians call Khirbet Al-Makhul were constructed illegally, without building permits, and the ramshackle buildings were demolished on Monday.

According to the IDF Spokesperson, Palestinians at the scene Friday afternoon began hurling stones and physically beating the Israeli security forces that arrived. Soldiers used crowd-dispersing methods to break up the melee and three Palestinians were arrested.

Reuters reported a very different version of the events, saying that EU diplomats had been “manhandled” while attempting to deliver emergency aid supplies to the Palestinians who had lost their homes in the area.

The Reuters report claimed that a truck full of such emergency supplies was confiscated by the IDF.

The IDF said the truck contained building supplies for new homes.

Just a few years ago you would hardly ever see negative stories in our press regarding Israel. Not only that, but even on many bulletin boards like this, a negative comment about Israel's policies was sure way of getting your post deleted.

I use to think it was darn close to a conspiracy because you call the President just about anything you wanted to but you did not dare say a discouraging word about Israel.

Hopefully the tied is changing and some truth can get out there.

The Palastinians are no saints, but what Israel is doing is just wrong.

http://www.icahd.org

The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions launched its tenth annual Rebuilding Camp on Sunday, July 1st. More than 30 volunteers from around the world joined Palestinians and Israelis in the West Bank town of Anata to rebuild a Palestinian home demolished five times by Israel. The home belonging to Salim and Arabiya Shawamreh and their seven children (known as Beit Arabiya), located in the West Bank town of Anata, north-east of Jerusalem (Area C), has been demolished by Israeli authorities five times since 1998. The family applied three times to the Israeli Civil Administration for a building permit and was refused each time, as were 94% of Palestinian permit applications since 1993. Having no other alternative, they proceeded, as have thousands of other Palestinian families, to build their home, in which they lived for five years despite having been issued a demolition order. In July 1998, Israeli authorities demolished the home for the first time. Subsequently, the home was rebuilt and demolished four more times, with the last demolition occurring on January 23rd 2012. -

Within two weeks, the pile of rubble left after the demolition of the house in the middle of night on 23 January earlier this year, was transformed into a fully functioning house with extensive terrace, made possible by nearly one hundred additional volunteers, including international youth, part of summer delegations to Palestine who worked with temperatures soaring over 30 degrees C and with limited water supplies. -
