Netanyahu Warns Iran’s Leader Is A ‘Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing’
Source: MSNBC
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used his platform at the United Nations Tuesday to voice deep distrust over Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the newly-elected leaders vows to bring his countrys nuclear program in line with international standards.
I know Rouhani doesnt sound like [former President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad, but when it comes to Iranians, Ajmadinejad was a wolf in wolfs clothing. Rouhani is a wolf in sheeps clothing a wolf who thinks he can pull the wool over the eyes of the international community, Netanyahu said.
Rouhani on Thursday called for the destruction of all nuclear weapons worldwide, and reiterated that his countrys nuclear program was for civilian energy use only. A day later, President Obama revealed that he and Rouhani spoke by phone, breaking the three-decades-plus silence between the two countries top leaders. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said Sunday that Iran, with the backing of its supreme leader Ali Khamenei, would allow international inspectors into its nuclear sites as part of negotiations with the United States. Iran, in turn, asked the U.S. to ease up on the crippling sanctions that are imposed on the country for pursuing its nuclear program.
I wish I could believe Rouhani, but I dont. Because facts are stubborn things and the facts are that Irans savage record flatly contradicts Rouhanis soothing rhetoric, Netanyahu said.

I guess I should thank him for putting it in such stark terms- the Israeli Gov't almost always gets a pass for their warmongering and war crimes, but it's hard to justify it when they are clearly not being attacked.

(3,596 posts)this crap has to stop. They have to stop seeing a villain in everything and everyone. Give this opening a chance. I am not overly hopeful but I also think the world deserves to see if this is a potential new opportunity. I know he is just looking out for Israel but I would not be so quick to pour water on embers that might eventually come to life.
Israel continues to build settlements both against U.S. policy and a U.N. resolution but if there any downside for the Israelis? No. This is what has to stop. We must begin dealing with both sides of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict fairly and equitably. We can argue whether the Palestinians are in a position to negotiate in good faith, etc. but again we have to give things a try.
I don't trust "Bee-Bee" further than I could throw his massive physical body. We should in fact be very very skeptical of him - at least to the same degree we are cautious about the new Iranian leader.

The new Iranian president is a politician, and needs to be viewed as one: much posturing and little action, and probably little authority.

(15,365 posts)and Israel does have nukes.
I found this interesting:
"Iran's savage record" ... towards Israel??? I'd really like to see the facts on that. The ONLY country that Iran has ever attacked in the ME since Israel's creation is Iraq - and that was because the Iraqis were making war on Iran - and it was happening WITH the encouragement of the USG, then dominated by earlier incarnations of those who later became PNAC.
Iranian rhetoric has been outrageous, yes. The mullahs have also been tough on their own people, especially women. But the facts are that even the most outrageous rhetoric has not led Iran to attack Israel at all. Ever. Period.
If Benny thinks that is a "savage record," then he mistakes the meaning of "savage." He's totally lost it.
