Obama Would Veto House Republican 'Piecemeal' Spending Bills - White House

Source: REUTERS

Published: Wednesday October 2, 2013 MYT 6:40:01 AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama would veto any "piecemeal" legislation that would restore funding only to certain parts of the government like national parks, veterans programs and the District of Columbia rather than a broad federal spending bill, the White House said on Tuesday.

"These piecemeal efforts are not serious, and they are no way to run a government," spokeswoman Amy Brundage said in a statement, noting that the White House wants the Republican-controlled House of Representatives to pass a bill that would continue funding the federal government without any unrelated policy measures attached.

"The president and the Senate have been clear that they won't accept this kind of game-playing, and if these bills were to come to the president's desk, he would veto them," she said.

If they're going to shut it down, then I say let nothing work until they stop this bullshit. There ain't going to be no cherry picking so they can simply isolate Obamacare.

You broke it Repukes. Now fix the WHOLE damn thing.

If a bill comes to his desk that funds some worthy purpose and he vetoes it... he can't blame anyone else for that issue from that moment forward.

Chances are that this is a strategy to provide Democrats cover to vote against something that they would otherwise need to vote for. "Hey... the President made clear that he would veto this type of bill... so I'm just voting to stop wasting time"

Just think, they could finally get rid of Education, commerce, energy, and other departments. Poof! Their dream of a government consisting of the military and little else would be achieved. Oh right, that's almost what we have now.

Frankly, Everything except the bare minimum to prevent deaths (like VA hospitals and fed emergency services) should be down. Then Americans would see what the Federal Government is good for. Try shutting down the FAA/ commercial air traffic for a day and I'll bet this would be all over in less than 24 hours.

Instead, this is the picture Americans are being fed:

How about we pass a congressional bill that includes these priorities.

1) Impeach U.S. Supreme Court Justices Scalia, Thomas and Kennedy, to be replaced by Whomever Obama nominates, without debate.

2) Repeal the Sequester and make those funds President Obama chooses to reinstate active and those he deems unnecessary defunded. Use those funds from inactive items for whatever pet projects President Obama chooses, without debate.

3) Raise the personal income tax rates back to their 1999 levels, including those for corporations headquartered both onshore and offshore, without debate.

4) Open war tribunals for the Bush/Cheney crime family, extradite them overseas, at the discretion of President Obama, without debate.

Feel free to add more if you like. Hey, if they can do stoopid stuff, so can we!

Number 1: Good, but throw John Roberts and Samuel Alito in there, and also make sure that Ruth Bader Ginsburg's replacement can be chosen by President Obama without debate, if she needs replaced while Obama is still in office.

Two and four are good.

Number 3: Reinstate the Kennedy-era tax plan, with numbers indexed to inflation.
