FEMA workers recalled from furlough for storm prep

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says the Federal Emergency Management Agency is recalling some furloughed workers to help prepare for Tropical Storm Karen.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says President Barack Obama is being updated about the storm. He says Obama directed his team to ensure staffing and resources are available to respond to the storm.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed by to the partial government shutdown. It's unclear how many FEMA workers are being brought back.

Tropical Storm Karen is the first named tropical system to menace the U.S. this year. A hurricane watch is in effect along the Gulf Coast.

on assignment to FEMA. No pay. Just the knowledge than in 1996, Congress voted to give furloughed employees back pay and the assumption that it will happen again after this stupid impasse.

deposited until after the shutdown ends.

On Tuesday, we had to report and had four hours to shut down our work in an orderly manner (we had checklists). Federal pay periods are two weeks and this is week two. One task was to submit our timesheets for the remainder of this pay period, which ends Saturday, 5 October.

The pay will be deposited next week, but only for the time worked through the close of business on Monday, 30 Sep. The directions were to account for Tuesday's four hours as code KE (Furlough) and to submit corrected timesheets after appropriations are passed and the shutdown ended.

Our Office Chief is on the job as emergency essential but won't be paid for this time until after the shutdown ends.
What is unknown is if those of us ordered away (we cannot volunteer our time) will receive back pay. I believe that last summer's sequestration furloughs was the 1st time federal workers have not been reimbursed for lost time.

EVERY SINGLE STATE about to be hit by the hurricane voted for the Representatives and Senators that voted for the Shutdown of the U.S. Government. Don't crank up FEMA to reward their voters for electing the clowns that shut down the entire government including FEMA.

Let those state's Representatives and Senators bear the grief of their decision...........

They made their bed, now lie in it........fair is fair........
