GOP Rep: Dems Have No Proof A Clean Spending Bill Would Pass

Source: TPM

Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) on Monday said Democrats have no evidence that a no-strings-attached spending bill would pass the House.

CNN's Anderson Cooper pressed Labrador to explain why a so-called "clean" continuing resolution to fund the government shouldn't immediately be brought to a vote.

"You know, we could bring it to a vote and it would lose," Labrador said on "AC360." "And this is a beautiful talking point that the Democrats have, because it is something they have no evidence that there is anybody willing to vote for this bill."

Ok Raul, I'll call your bluff. Put it up to a vote and let the chips fall where they may. You can vote it down and dance on your vote singing Hallelujah. We'd all love to watch that.

This is now all about their "ego". They are in a corner they don't know how to get out of. Instead of worrying about what the people "really" want, they worry about themselves looking like total idiots for causing this mess. They just don't care that people are being hurt by their lack of doing the right thing, and putting their own interests ahead of this country.

The longer they keep this going the more they will lose, they are just to damned stubborn to admit it.

That's why they need to get "something" from Democrats before they cave. We, on the other hand, have all the leverage and no motivation to give them anything. That might be true if the nation was blaming Democrats over this, but they aren't. Regardless of who did what in this situation, what the GOP didn't think about was the "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" thoughts of the electorate. After two shutdowns in 95 and 96, plus the completely fabricated "crisis" last year, and the utter failure of the Super Committee, they have no credibility on economic issues for a generation or two.

America forgets pretty easily, unless its a colossal screw up. Shutting down the government and brinkmanship with the nation's credit are colossal screw ups.

That's true of any political philosophy in any kind of representative government. The German Worker's Party was voted to power. The people's representatives also voted for the Third Reich, basically.

But back to America, until the electorate is convinced to throw these bums out, they will remain and they will continue to push for insanity. This always happens when there's low voter turnout at the polls. Why do you think all the red states are into purging voting rolls and enacting voter ID laws? To suppress turnout so they can keep their wackos in office.

They have really worked themselves into a terrible political hole.

If a clean CR is brought up for a vote and it passes it exposes the House Repuglicans as solely responsible for the gov't shutdown. The question will be, of course, why didn't Boner do let this vote happen eight days ago.

But at least the shutdown would be over; for the TeaPuglicans that will also mean considerable pressure to allow a clean debt ceiling vote. From their point of view that would mean a total political rout ... and I don't see how they can do that.

If it fails it will be on a party-line vote and they will then have complete ownership of the shutdown, especially from that moment onwards.

the only way to prove who is right is to have that vote. If the PUKES don't have the votes then they should have nothing to fear from it, but we all know that #1 they are afraid of going on any sort of record with a vote, and 2. They are actually afraid they have the votes to pass it and their leadership just doesn't want it to.

to have the Democrats if the true feelings were to be announced most of the reasonable Congress would vote for a clean CR. Cruz is setting himself up as a dictator, he is not interested in governing except for everyone to do what he wants. They should ditch him.

Why I listen for a few minutes is crazy, why I read republican blogs is crazy, but they all have the same talking points in lock step. There is no proof. This is Obama's shutdown. No one wants Obamacare.

So take a vote and let us know where you stand. Prove you are the party of NO once again

What's the point of NOT bringing it to the floor? If it doesn't pass, then it doesn't pass, and we move on to the next way to deal with it. And the Democratic "talking point" goes away, much to the happiness of the Repubs. This seems like the same type of issue as the ACA: Republicans don't want to try it, because it might work which will be bad for their talking points. Likewise, a vote might pass, which would be bad for their talking points.

The U.S. is now ungovernable because what the American people want is not what the GOP wants, and the GOP has just enough levers to make a big middle finger. In other words, reality doesn't match what they want it to be.
