Malala Yousafzai wins EU's Sakharov human rights prize

Source: BBC News

Pakistani schoolgirl and campaigner Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban, has won the EU's Sakharov human rights prize.

The 16-year-old activist was shot a year ago for campaigning for better rights for girls.

In the absence of actually doing anything to promote peace that's hardly surprising.

I saw her on the Daily Show and it was funny when Jon Stewart made her crack a smile. She even made a joke about throwing a shoe.

... Earlier this week, that the way forward in Pakistan was to open a dialogue with her attackers.

She campaigned actively for girls' access to school in the Swat Valley area of northwestern Pakistan, which has become a battleground in recent years between Pakistani forces and Taliban militants who oppose education for girls. On Oct. 9, 2012, her school bus was flagged down and boarded by gunmen who identified her by name and shot her in the head.

I think if you look at some of the things she has said since then, you might see why she could be nominated. I recommend the daily show interview I refereed to earlier.

The fact that she said she didn't deserve it underscores that.
