2 shot at Millington Navy Base, shooter in custody

(WMC-TV) - It is confirmed that at least two people have been shot near the Millington Navy Base. Both victims are reported to be in non-critical condition.

The base is currently on lock down, but the shooter is in custody.

Photos sent in to Action News 5 show crime scene tape and several medics on the scene.

The U.S. Navy put out the following tweet to its Twitter account:

3. To answer the question I had: "Why does the Navy have a base in TN?"

From their web page:

A part of the Navy Region Midwest and the Navy Installations Command, NSA Mid-South serves as the Navy’s Human Resources Center of Excellence. Headquartered onboard NSA Mid-South are Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, the Navy Manpower Analysis Center, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center. More than 7,500 military, civilian, and contract personnel are assigned/work on base.

Not all naval jobs are about the ocean. There is alot of paperwork and logistics involved in running the Navy.

At the time, NAS Memphis was the world's largest inland naval base, or maybe it was just the world's largest inland naval air station. My memory is not clear on this. Maybe Wikipedia can answer that.

My brother was born there. I don't remember too much, mostly just the hospital and the commissary. Frankly I thought the base had been closed at some point over the past 30 years.

because everyone was under age. I think your comments regrading Airedale's were uncalled for, and a little bit stupid. In fact, at the time Beale Street in downtown Memphis was off limits.

Emergency crews are responding to 5650 Attu which is listed as the Army National Guard recruiting center.

The shooter is in custody.

We are told the shooter had just been fired, left and returned with a gun.

The first time I received orientation they warned us about the active KKK in the area.. Some bars still displayed no colors allowed. Weird ass place.
