Kansas Republican Governor Brownback in Trouble; Challenger Davis Narrowly Ahead, One Year till Election Day:
Sam Brownback, who has served in Kansas as a Congressman, U.S. Senator, and now Governor, is in danger of being unseated after one term, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for KWCH-TV in Wichita. Today, the Democratic ticket of Paul Davis and Jill Docking edges the Republican ticket of Brownback and Jeff Colyer, 43% to 39%.
Of those who voted for Brownback when he ran for Governor in 2010, just 59% stick with him in 2014, and 25% defect to the Democrats. Though today Brownback leads 2:1 among Republicans, he trails 11:1 among Democrats. Independents split. Northeast and Southeast Kansas both favor the Democratic ticket; Western Kansas favors the Republican ticket.
Of those voting for Brownback today, 65% say their mind is made up, compared to 29% who say they may change their mind. Of those voting for Davis today, 69% say their mind is made up, compared to 26% who say they may change their mind.
Cell-phone and home-phone respondents included in this research. SurveyUSA interviewed 600 state of Kansas adults 10/23/13 and 10/24/14. Of the adults, 511 were registered to vote and were asked the questions in the survey. This research was conducted using blended sample, mixed mode. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (76% of registered voters) were interviewed on their home telephone in the recorded voice of a professional announcer. Respondents not reachable on a home telephone were shown a questionnaire on their smartphone, tablet or other electronic device.

(1,009 posts)they're the poster boy for derpiness given various books written about them. They're trying to move at least into the 20th century, and hopefully within another decade, can join most of us in the 21st century.

(148 posts)I contacted Mr. Davis' office to see about volunteering. And like Texas and Austin, Kansas has a blue area in Douglas county. (the university of Kansas) and we're purplish in the whole eastern third of the state. It's the western two thirds where the banjos hold thrall.

(291 posts)Its been on the news for a few days. The tea party crowd claim the poll was biased, conducted by a bunch of Liberals. Didn't Mitt Romney have the same problem? He wouldn't hire pollsters who came up with results he didn't like. Is that a bubble I see?
