I think there needs to be a serious look at some good gun control laws. That said, sane people don't just take a gun into a mall or a school or a movie theater and start blowing people away.

into a mall or a school or a movie theater because guns are designed for killing, and make the task at hand ever so much easier than using a knife, a mass drowning or poisoning, or driving a car into a building where there are many people, and the killing can be done from a safe distance (for the shooter).

Yes, crazy people are more prone to mass murder than "normal" citizens, but guns just make it so much easier because they are the perfect weapon of choice for the infliction of maximum death and destruction. Plus, guns are very easy to obtain legally, or illegally, due to the NRA's corrupt political influence on sensible gun regulation at all levels of government.

The NRA mantra: the answer to gun violence in the USA is mental health care (as long as the NRA and its supporters don't have to pay for it) and even more guns in the hands of the "good guys." We already have more guns per capita than all other countries in the civilized world, and according to gun fanatics, we need even more and in more venues.

So thank you for agreeing that we need to take "a serious look at some good gun control laws." That makes millions of people in this country feel ever so much safer tonight.

The suspect in today's Central Connecticut State University campus emergency and lockdown has been identified as 21-year-old student David Kyem of Newington, the son of CCSU geography professor Peter Kyem.

David Kyem, a senior, was charged with breach of peace and was released after posting $1,000 bond.

Kyem and two other people of interest were taken into custody at CCSU following a massive three-hour police search that stemmed from the report of a man carrying a gun.

Peter Kyem said the incident was a misunderstanding and that his son was wearing a Halloween costume. According to Peter Kyem, David had spent the weekend with a friend and attended a costume party the night before. He said David was not in possession of any weapons and doesn't think his son has ever held a gun.

Lyrics:
Here I come again now baby
Like a dog in heat
Tell it's me by the clamor now baby
I like to tear up the street

And I been smokin for so long
You know I'm here to stay
Got you in a stranglehold baby
You best get outta the way

Road I cruise is a bitch now baby
No you cant turn me round
And if a house gets in my way baby
You know I'll burn it down

You ran the night that you left me
You put me in my place
Got you in a stranglehold baby
You gonna crush your face

Sometimes you gotta get higher
And sometimes you gotta start low
Some people think they gonna die someday
I got news you never got to go

Come on come on up
Come on come on baby
Come on come on up
Come on come on baby
Come on come on

Road I cruise is a bitch now
You know you cant turn me round
And if a house gets in my way
You know I'll burn it down

You ran the night that you left me
You put me in my place
Got you in a stranglehold baby
You better cross your way

I know that mall very well, it's the largest in NJ and about 1/2 hour from my town. The reporter is in front of Nordstrom's. No one seems to know much at the moment, although they think that there have been injuries. They are in lock down and there are people still at the mall because the shooter is still inside.

I hope we can cross back, but it's going to take an almost unimaginable amount of effort to take this back out of the realm of something easily thought of and done. At the VERY least we need to get automatic weapons out of peoples' hands, but that just minimizes the potential for many deaths. How we manage to make this once again unthinkable is beyond me.

it's difficult to make it once again unthinkable. The seeds are well planted for this behavior, and IMO, much of it has been planted by the RW MSM with their endless spreading of hostilities and hatred for one group against another.

When reliable Tea Party Sen. Pat Toomey (PA) came out in favor of a very reasonable background checks bill a few months ago, the comments on his FB page were unreal. "Freedom hating traitor", "sellout", "you just lost my vote" are some of the milder ones.

Tue Nov 5, 2013, 04:36 PM

simple: the NRA pimps the Second Amendment to its customers (and its pitiful handful of members) for profits and right-wing political power. Neoconservative organizations, and wealthy ultra-conservatives (i.e. the Koch Brothers) fund the NRA's political clout, and they have become so powerful that even "Liberal" politicians cower in their presence. We see it everyday here on DU: "support for gun control will cost us elections," say the NRA apologists. The real truth is that the NRA and its right-wing politicians use gun control as a fear tactic, and millions of dollars in blood money, to steal elections.

The NRA's fear machine has been using the same propaganda since its formation: "they're coming to get your guns!" That mantra is widely believed even though no concerted effort by any US government to "confiscate" guns has ever taken place (cue hair-on-fire gun cultists for isolated anecdotes). The United States of America has more guns per capita than any other civilized country in the world. Certain types of weapons have been, and are, banned in the interest of public safety, but that is not "confiscation" (except to an extremist). NRA apologists and cold-dead-hands gun worshipers have repeated this bogus battle cry so long, and so often that not only the skin heads and KKK believe it, but so do millions of otherwise sane Americans.

The NRA, like their extreme right-wing sponsors, is the real cabal of organized criminals who promote the gun violence epidemic that plagues this country. And the sad part is that they promote gun violence and needless death simply for profits and political power.

The mall was about to close when the man started shooting, but witnesses said that he shot in the air and didn't try to hurt anyone. Police said that he had ample time to shoot people if he had wanted to do so. Apparently the guy just wanted to commit suicide. May he rest in peace.
