Rand Paul Takes a Swipe at Chris Christie for Sandy Ads

Source: ABC News

During a Senate committee hearing on post-Sandy recovery efforts, Paul asked Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan whether it was appropriate to use federal relief funds for television ads, a clear jab at the New Jersey Republican who starred in ads touting the Jersey Shore.

“Some of these ads, people running for office put their their mug all over these ads while they’re in the middle of a political campaign,” Paul said at Senate Homeland Security hearing on recovery from superstorm Sandy. “In New Jersey, $25 million was spent on ads that included somebody running for political office. Do ya think there might be a conflict of interest there?”

“That’s a real problem. And that’s why when people who are trying to do good and trying to use taxpayers’ money wisely, they’re offended to see our money spent on political ads,” Paul continued. “That’s just offensive. In New York, you actually have a rule. They’re not allowed to do it. So New York did the same thing, which I still object, but at least they didn’t put someone’s face on the ads and their family, and it looks like a bio ad.”

I'm not going to stand with Rand, but I will enjoy watching these a-holes tear each other apart.

so if they started chewing each other, Paul would be all consumed before he even finishes 10% of Christie.

Meanwhile, I'm wondering if the over-the-top politicizing of Sandy relief efforts ad finitum ad nauseum will serve Chris Christie as well as 9/11 overkill served the presidential ambitions of one Rudy Giulliani? Or for that matter, the somewhat tiresome in-your-face-I'm-a-jerk style common to both of these individuals? What works in New York or New Jersey may not play well elsewhere.

we are gonna puke. "Stronger Than the Storm" my ass.

My neighbor in Cape May asked me why tax dollars had to be spent telling people to visit their own property.

Good question.

Sen. Booker grills officials on Sandy recovery
Booker: New flood insurance rates will 'devastate'

Both Booker and Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., also questioned officials about the skyrocketing flood-insurance rates, which have been a particular problem for families along the Jersey Shore.

Menendez has introduced legislation to delay the rate hikes for four years until FEMA completes an affordability study, proposes solutions and reworks its flood mapping approach.

“That is one of the most urgent things that sits before the Senate,” Menendez said of his bill. He called the higher rates a “man-made disaster” affecting New Jerseyans still recovering from Sandy.

Booker quizzed FEMA administrator Craig Fugate over why the affordability study wasn’t done, saying the new rates are “going to devastate, completely devastate, parts of New Jersey.”

“We’re rushing forward with this not knowing the impact it’s going to have?” he said. “Not knowing the damage? That just seems to me to be a million percent wrong and damaging.”

Also at the hearing, Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky took a swipe at newly re-elected Gov. Chris Christie for starring in TV ads promoting the New Jersey Shore in the aftermath of the storm.

on his show last night about Christie and the fact that so many Sandy victims are STILL waiting for federal disaster money to be disbursed to help them rebuild their homes.

One guest on the panel said she and her family were living in a trailer in the driveway of their home destroyed by Sandy. STILL waiting a year later, with no answers as to when they'll get some help.

Chris was really upset about this issue. I hope the story gets wider attention!!

Where is this money???

The Sandy recovery ads that were aired included Christie and his family. The ad agency was chosen precisely because they had proposed to include Christie and his family in the ads. Therefore giving him free publicity, as his campaign didn't have to pay for the ads. This guy is great at marketing himself and his ego is as large as his girth.

I live in NJ, my warning to the DNC is not to underestimate Christie. The man plays hard and plays dirty. I think that it was an strategic mistake to run away from Buono and allowing Christie to win by such a wide margin. Now the media is touting him as the de facto Republican nominee. Time magazine put on him on the cover of their next issue.

Maybe he "only" wins 55 to 45 if they went in and really battled, at best, and that still is a win, a big win.

He was going to be pumped up by the media the moment he won regardless.

He is absolutely the best R candidate, and frankly, if he gets into the general the only person who can beat him is the person in your pic.

It wakes up the usual naysayers. She would ice him with a stare if he dared to stick his finger in her face like he did to that poor teacher. Hillary has dealt with plenty of bullies in her life, she would give him back as much as he dishes out.
