Possible discrepancy in Fairfax absentee votes could affect count in AG race

Source: Washington Post

The Fairfax County Electoral Board is investigating a possible irregularity in the number of absentee ballots cast in Virginia’s largest jurisdiction that Democrats say could shift votes in the still-unresolved race for Virginia attorney general.

As of Thursday evening, state Sen. Mark D. Obenshain (R-Harrisonburg) led state Sen. Mark R. Herring (D-Loudoun) in the contest by 777 votes – or .03 percent of 2.2 million cast – according to the State Board of Elections website. Local election boards are now counting provisional ballots, cast by people without ID or in the wrong polling place, and canvassing the returns looking for any possible errors. Both campaigns have said they will consider asking for a recount, depending on the results of the review.

.... According to state numbers, Fairfax reported an unexplainably lower number of absentee ballots cast in the 8th District .....

Irregularities happen, they always have.

Catching an irregularity is a success for the system. This particular problem is going to be worked.

I can't say if distrust will turn it into the circus of televised hand counts in Minnesota, but

This didn't slip through any crack, and that's a good thing.

Cuccinelli purged 38,000 voters and many of the purged voters had to vote provisional.

NOW they have to go to the courthouse before noon today with their documents to get their votes counted.

Via Twitter ?@Cuccinelli4Gov comes this desperation tweet imploring the Republicans who had to vote provisional to get to the courthouse by noon today

Dave Wasserman ?@Redistrict

Good news for Herring (D): there were indeed 3,008 uncounted votes. Bad: he only won 68.8% of them, not enough to overtake Obenshain's lead.
