from the poem:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Actually, the poem is pretty apropos today:

William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

THE SECOND COMING

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

William Butler Yeats.

In my college and post grad years I never took a class in 20th Century UK/Irish poetry but read his work on my own. Sylvia Plath lived in a place in London once home to Yeats.

Ollies, a Central PA, odd lot bargain store, sold one of her books for 50 cents a copy. I bought 10 of them and put them in the porta-potty I rent for a major party I throw each year. They were used as toilet paper. My very liberal guests thought it was the funniest thing they had ever seen. We ran out quite fast and I had to put real TP in.

If you haven't discovered Malia Litman's blog, here it is:
http://malialitman.wordpress.com/

She is NOT a fan of Sarah Failin' and every day she blogs about another Palin foible, along with an occasional other topic.

She's especially tough on Todd Palin and his association with a prostitute in Anchorage and the alleged cover-up by the Anchorage PD of the woman's assertions that Todd was pimping her out to his friends.

Anyway, Malia has a long blog item on Sarah's Christmas book tour.

Palin is either smart enough to have figured out how to do this, or someone told her how it could be done and she remembered.

In all other respects, the woman is a failure--but she does know how to take advantage of people.

Unfortunately Sarah Palin is also still here. Like an annoying gnat that circles your head, she won't go away.

At our local Border's, before they went out of business here in DE, they had racks of her book - some autographed - they had been marked down to $1.50. And they still weren't selling

I really thought of buying one of the autographed ones, but I refused to give the satisfaction of a sale to that bimbo.

Not as far as I know. There's one in Easton, in Whitehall, and in Center Valley - all a fairly short drive from Bethlehem - but not a one in Bethlehem itself. The best-known book outlet in Bethlehem is the venerable Moravian Book Shop and I doubt they'd have her there signing books.
