A teenager who attended a large house party where two Cypress Springs High School students died says gunshots began in the house and continued outside as people ran into the streets seeking cover.
Shaniqua Brown, 17, says Saturday evening's birthday party "was not rowdy at all," and many people were dancing when they heard the shots.
Authorities are seeking two gunmen who are ages 17 and 22.
...
The party was advertised on Twitter as an 18th birthday celebration with the hashtag #Fab3HouseParty. Brown said word about the party was also spread through Instagram, a photo-sharing app and website.
Garcia said promoting the party on social media likely invited strangers to the home.

This story has gone national, as the New York Times has covered it and adds:
In January, a dispute between two students led to gunfire at Lone Star Colleges North Harris campus that sent four people to hospitals. In April, more than a dozen people were stabbed by a troubled student at Lone Star Colleges CyFair campus, about five miles from the scene of the shooting on Saturday. And in September, a fight at Spring High School led to the stabbing death of a 17-year-old student.

(36,974 posts)A man and a woman were killed in the shooting, said Sheriff Adrian Garcia. The man died at the party and the woman at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital. The victims have not been named but Garcia said both attended Cypress Springs High School.
At least 19 others were wounded in the shooting, said Garcia.

(2,091 posts)"good guys with guns" or the "bad guys with guns?" I am so sick of reading about all the senseless shootings in our country. Something MUST be done and done soon. We just can't keep going on like this. It almost makes us afraid to go anyplace for fear of getting shot. People are dying needlessly.

(53,661 posts)On Saturday, nearly 40 armed men, women, and children waited outside a Dallas, Texas area restaurant to protest a membership meeting for the state chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a gun safety advocacy group formed in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
According to a spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action (MDA), the moms were inside the Blue Mesa Grill when members of Open Carry Texas (OCT) an open carry advocacy group pull up in the parking lot and start getting guns out of their trunks. The group then waited in the parking lot for the four MDA members to come out. The spokeswoman said that the restaurant manager did not want to call 911, for fear of inciting a riot and waited for the gun advocates to leave. The group moved to a nearby Hooters after approximately two hours.
MDA later released a statement calling OCT gun bullies who disagree with our goal of changing Americas gun laws and policies to protect our children and families. The statement added that the members and restaurant customers were terrified by what appeared to be an armed ambush. A member of OCT responded by tweeting, I guess Im a #gunbullies #Comeandtakeit.
This is not the first time that gun advocates have rallied at MDA events. In March, a group of armed men crashed a MDA gun-control rally in Indianapolis. Other gun advocate groups will hold rallies this upcoming December 14th, the anniversary date of the Sandy Hook shooting.

So, it takes 40 heavily armed RWNJs to confront 4 people who dared to have a meeting. That's 4 dangerous minds, folks, 4. How scary is that, someone who wants a civilized discussion. But the gun toting fascists don't believe they have that right, so they show up like a load of commandos. Oh, no coercion there...
This incident with 2 dead and 19 wounded, might actually have been the sort of thing those mothers were thinking about in addition to Sandy Hook. But how dare they! How dare they even say such a thing! 1st amendment, anybody?
Just like the 4th that wingnuts carried on about TSA when PBO was elected, but didn't mind when the Shrub did it? Huh? And don't regard women's bodies as covered by the 4th, since they support personhood laws?
Aw, shucks. You wonder why I don't respect you. It's a two way street. A armed mob is not going to have a respectful talk while threatening to kill you for talking. Nope.
No, I am not going to be nice to people who have been shutting down civil discourse since 2008. This is pure intimidation, just like Somalia or any other libertarian paradise. Are we to be cowed into not saying anything while they and their ilk steal the USA?
It's more of the MIGHT makes RIGHT thinking that is killing this country and the planet. Oh, and people and freedom of speech, too. Big Fat Liars that they are, they claim their use of the 2nd protects the 1st.
But only for them, not anyone else!
Sorry if I went offtopic, but the thread seems to be going that way...

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]This kind of intimidation is domestic terrorism by the FBI's own definition.
I want to know why these RWNJ yahoos aren't under arrest, being criminally prosecuted for their unlawful actions, and permanently stripped of their gun-toting privileges as a result of their politically motivated, threatening and intimidating (aka terrorist) ambush.

(53,661 posts)That is not a photoshop. I've seen these on and off for nearly 30 years in more than one state. It has an effect on both sides of the aisle, emboldening one and intimidating the other.

My gosh. How much clearer evidence can there be that "both sides" are NOT equally at fault for inciviliy and not listening to each other?

(53,661 posts)Wash, rinse, repeat. And it does it work on the human mind very well.
A person may look at that and think, 'Oh, look, it's a wingnut,' and not feel an immediate threat. But the rhetoric builds subconsciously to let you know if you fall into any of those groups, you are a game animal. Nothing new:
Gun Advocate Declares Democrat Hunting Season, Encourages Assassinations (AUDIO)

And yes, the parties are far apart. Those who say they are the same, have not paid attention. One can look at the videos of the Birchers and baggers, and other versions of RWNJs, who can't think right after hearing all of this.
We can't solve problems in a democratic society with no discourse. This is not discourse, this is about minds made up, waiting to act or at least, scare others into not speaking. Some RWNJs will never act out; some clearly have. We ignore them at our peril and we have a difficult position, because democracy doesn't allow us to act in kind. If we do what they do, we have lost.

(16,350 posts)I know it can't happen here. But one can dream.
Because "paranoid conspiracy followers" must be appeased, the US is a lost cause for any serious gun regulation. Massacres and "accidental" deaths are as commonplace and as American as apple pie.
Ranchemp.
(1,991 posts)which would require 2/3rds of the states to vote for a repeal, even then, that still wouldn't ban the ownership of firearms, it would then be up to individual states to set their own firearms policies.

(55,445 posts)here locally a year or two ago, there was seemingly a high school house party shooting every couple of weeks (ongoing gang/neighborhood/rival school grudge or something)...
And it goes without saying: What kind of parent allows their kid to just invite any yahoos off the street?
