Louisiana official wants to take library’s money to build new jail

Source: Raw Story

Voters in one Louisiana parish will decide Saturday whether to devote funding for their library to a new jail.

Lafourche Parish Council Lindel Toups pushed the measure because he disapproves of some of the library’s programs.

“They’re teaching Mexicans how to speak English,” Toups told the Tri-Parish Times, referring to a Spanish-language section at one of the nine branch libraries.

“Let that son of a bitch go back to Mexico. There’s just so many things they’re doing that I don’t agree with,” Toups continued. “Them junkies and hippies and food stamps (recipients) and all, they use the library to look at drugs and food stamps (on the Internet). I see them do it.”

person can "see them" using the library to look "at drugs and food stamps" is beyond me, I doubt he has been in a library since his 2nd grade class took a field trip to one.

CONFESS!!

Maybe they'd better get used to it though.

After the GOP-in-a-Cup Party gets done sequestering
money, Food Stamps will be like a water mirage in a desert

From the article:

The jail can hold 244 prisoners. As of Monday, 335 inmates were on the detention center’s online roster. Michael LeBlanc, whom the parish council hired as the project’s consultant this summer, has posited the parish should build a 540-bed, $25-million jail. Capacity needs are based on LeBlanc’s own formula, to the chagrin of the ACLU Foundation of Louisiana, which has called for the parish to commission an expert to study Lafourche’s needs.

“If this fails, I give up,” Toups said. “I’m going to wait until the federal judge shuts it down. I vote no new taxes.”

.
.
.

Jails provide cheap labor for the mega corporations - manual jobs that don't require book larnin'.

And jails provide many more jobs than a library ever will - all them guards, social workers, administrators, etc.;

many that are relatives of the 1% - GOTTA FEED THE 1% - They need bigger houses, yachts and businesses;

People in jail have no use for all that sorta stuff.

Sad thing about all this is . . .

The 1% are winning

(sigh)

Libraries yield no profit (except for a huge amount of education and learning). Jails on the other hand can be profit makers for the political takers who are so keen on inmates for profit schemes. You know which way they want this to go.
