Pervez Musharraf to face trial for treason, says Pakistani minister

Source: The Guardian / AP

Pakistan's interior minister has said the government plans to put the former president Pervez Musharraf on trial for treason.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Musharraf would go on trial under article 6 of the constitution for declaring a state of emergency in 2007 and suspending the constitution.

Khan said the government would send a letter to the supreme court on Monday requesting the start of treason proceedings.

Musharraf would be the first military ruler to be tried for treason in a country that has experienced three military coups in its 66-year history. He could face the death penalty or life in prison if convicted.

and the Bush crime family? Move over Musharraf, your case has been delayed indefinitely. We'll start with our two and work our way down into their crime network. I'll take years, if not a lifetime to prosecute them all.

not so long ago (2008 or 2009) and received a standing ovation from congress. I couldn't believe it, what a sickening display. Most of the members who funded and praised him are still in congress of course.
