(70,073 posts)Personally, I am glad he is getting treatment--for himself and his family.
On the other hand, he is solid #teaparty and swept into office a few years ago. He and his teabaggers do not want us ordinary folks to have access to health care---with mental health coverage--yet he will now take advantage of his socialist policy

.....He was arrested Oct. 29 for "unlawfully, knowingly and intentionally" possessing "a quantity of cocaine," according to a charging document from the U.S. attorney's office.
"I'm profoundly sorry to let down my family, particularly my wife and son, and the people of Southwest Florida," Radel said in a statement released Tuesday. "I struggle with the disease of alcoholism, and this led to an extremely irresponsible choice. As the father of a young son and a husband to a loving wife, I need to get help so I can be a better man for both of them."
Radel continued: "Believe me, I am disappointed in myself, and I stand ready to face the consequences of my actions. However, this unfortunate event does have a positive side. It offers me an opportunity to seek treatment and counseling. I know I have a problem and will do whatever is necessary to overcome it, hopefully setting an example for others struggling with this disease."...

Maybe just for people that blame their bad behavior on alcohol?
Test the dude randomly... otherwise somebody could slip him a bottle of scotch and get a bill passed.

What The @GOP Congressman Just Arrested For Cocaine Possession Had To Say About Drug Policy http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/11/19/2971381/trey-radel-cocaine/ #wiunion
.......Radel cosponsored a law that seeks to end mandatory minimum sentencing requirements that often send people to jail with a conviction no worse than drug possession. He has also spoken extensively about the need to reform the way the United States copes with its drug problems, repeating that a war on drugs is not the way to tackle drug issues. Here are just a couple of his comments on the topic:
The war on guns is as naive as the war on drugs, Radel said. Nothing will disappear. [The News-Press, January 30, 2013]
But I do think beyond just security assistance programs, there needs to be a much more engaged and focused, targeted approach by the United States . And thats where we get back to institutional support versus just, gee, how many kilos of cocaine have we seized today? [Congressional Hearing, June 19, 2013]...........
... Radels views arent all about dealing with drug issues comprehensively, though. He reportedly said he opposed legalizing marijuana in a debate back in April.
But Radel can surely appreciate the importance of the nuance on drug policy as it exists now. He is lucky he was not arrested on cocaine possession in Florida, as one Miami Herald reporter pointed out, where its a felony. That would have cost him his right to vote. .....

.... A Drug Enforcement Administration official said Radel allegedly bought cocaine from an undercover agent in Washington's Dupont Circle neighborhood on Oct. 29. Later that night, federal authorities went to his apartment and informed him that he would be facing criminal charges related to his purchase of cocaine.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release details of the case in his own name, said Radel was identified to authorities as a cocaine buyer by his suspected dealer. The dealer had been previously arrested as part of a separate drug investigation led by a federal task force.
DEA spokeswoman Barbara Carreno confirmed that the charge resulted from a joint DEA-FBI investigation.

Way to go, USA.In the statement, Radel said he realizes the disappointment my family, friends and constituents must feel. Believe me, I am disappointed in myself, and I stand ready to face the consequences of my actions.
The arrest, he said, has a positive side. It offers me an opportunity to seek treatment and counseling, he said.
